Isaac C. Haight and his wives Eliza Ann Snyder (1st), Annabella Sinclair MacFarlane (4th), and Elizabeth Summers (5th) and his children were separated in 1886 by Isaac's early death in Thatcher, Arizona. At that time, due to an outstanding arrest warrant and the intolerance of some people, Isaac couldn't return home. When he died in 1886, he was either the first or one of the first to be buried in the original Thatcher Cemetery (est. 1886) but due to annual flooding the graves were relocated to the new cemetery in 1901. It was at this time Isaac's remains were removed from the original cemetery and secreted in the basement of his nephew's newly built 1900 Brinkerhoff Hotel in Thatcher. Later, in 1913, Isaac's son David Snyder Haight purchased a plot in the new Thatcher Cemetery where Isaac was reinterred alone within the large plot. Before Isaac’s death, letters between Isaac and his wives and children expressed their love and affection and the desire to be reunited. Isaac, re-baptized and in good standing, in 1886 received a letter from F.D. Richards stating President John Taylor approved his return to the temple to receive additional blessings. Three of Isaac's wives are buried next to each other in the Haight Family plot at the center of old Plat A of the Cedar City Cemetery with one burial location remaining next to Isaac's first wife, Eliza Ann Snyder. As descendants, we want to fulfill the reunification wishes of his wives and children by the reburial of Isaac's physical remains and the placement of Isaac's monument marker together with his family. President Thomas S. Monson said, "Husbands and wives should not be separated, even their physical remains. . ". (Issac's wives Eliza Ann Price (3rd) and Mary Spring Murray (2nd) are interred in Toquerville, Utah, and Placer, California, respectively.)
To disinter, transport, and reinter Isaac's remains from Thatcher, Arizona to Cedar City, Utah, will cost $9,135. The funds raised will help cover these expenses. The relevant parties in both Thatcher and Cedar City have been supportive of this effort and we appreciate their understanding. The reinterment ceremony is planned for Saturday, September 16, 2023. All are welcome to attend.
