Isabella's 2024 National History Day Journey
Isabella has competed in National History Day, an international competition for students in middle and high school, every year since 6th grade. This wonderful program allows students to research and create projects on a wide array of historic topics, crafting papers, websites. documentaries, exhibits, and performances. Isabella has presented individual performances on topics from astronomers and fossil hunters to WWII book drives and Annie Oakley. This is her last year competing, and she has advanced to the national level every year!year this! In 2020, she won Junior Individual Performance at the national contest ( shortly before undergoing a major health crisis), and last year, she won the outstanding senior project from North Carolina. This year, her project, Hang Down Your Head and Cry: The Turning Point of the American Folk Reviva,l tells the story of how the recording of "Tom Dooley" had a major impact on music and culture. She will be competing at the National Contest in June, and she has been selected as one of a handful of projects to be featured in a showcase at the Smithsonian Museum of American History! Isabella is very excited to be representing North Carolina one last time at the NHD national contest, and she would very much appreciate help with travel expenses. Many students have their expenses covered by their schools, but Isabella is homeschooled, so she and her family pay for all the travel, props, and other needs for her competing. Thank you for helping this young scholar on her journey! If you would like to learn more about NHD, please go to nhd.org. If you would like to watch a video of Isabella's performance, please email us for the link. Thank you again!
