Isabel's Emergency Brain Surgery

Donation protected

There comes a time when we question why certain things happen... to good people. This is Isabel’s story.

On May 16th, 2020, Isabel gave birth to her second child, Luke. Recovering from childbirth is hard for all women, but for Isabel it had become especially painful and debilitating. Shortly after, it was learned that she was suffering from birth trauma and had developed an obstetric fistula and pelvic floor damage. To repair and address these conditions, Isabel had to go through three surgeries in early 2021.

In an untimely series of events, Isabel’s fiancé, Nelson, had to also undergo surgery while Isabel was continuously in pain. As many of you know, Nelson is a 10 year veteran with the North Bergen Police Department. He had suffered a shoulder injury while on duty. To say the least, Isabel & Nelson have had an unfortunate strain in their lives in the last year. However, they have continued to push through and support each other daily. Now they need your support.

While Isabel had been suffering from the birth trauma and helping her fiancé recover, she simultaneously had been experiencing thunderclap migraines, severe dizziness, memory loss, deteriorated vision on her right eye, and seizures while sleeping. Unfortunately, she had been misdiagnosed and advised it was stemming from stress and lack of sleep due to giving birth and her delivery complications.

In the search for relief due to her persistent symptoms, on June 16th, 2021, Isabel was referred to a neurologist and was sent for an MRI. It was discovered she had a 3.6 cm Brain Tumor in her right Temporal Lobe that was also attached to the main artery of her brain. She was immediately referred to a neurosurgeon and underwent emergency major brain surgery today, July 26th, 2021. The goal was to remove as much of the tumor as safely as possible. Isabel is under the care of the amazing Neuro team at Overlook Hospital in New Jersey.

For those who have been touched by tumors or any disease related to the brain, you know this type of diagnosis affects more than just the patient. It is devastating. Isabel’s diagnosis has impacted her family and upended normal daily life. Due to her other complications before this diagnosis, she hasn’t been able to work for a year. Despite Isabel having medical insurance, costs will only be partially covered for her medical care during this time. Additionally, there are a lot of out-of-pocket costs & co-payments associated with her ongoing treatment and the treatment following surgery. The next plan after the tumor removal, pending pathology results, will be chemotherapy and radiation.

This fundraiser has been created for Isabel in hopes of gaining support from all that know her. It is our hopes that this fundraiser will assist with the financial burden on her family that will follow this medical emergency. With one less worry, Isabel will be able to fully focus on recovering and healing. Please help us share her story and raise funds to offset her growing medical expenses.

Finally, and most importantly, please remember to keep Isabel in YOUR PRAYERS! She is an incredible mother who is selfless to her beautiful children, Luke and Sophia. She is the light to her family and friends. Any support at all will be greatly appreciated by Isabel and her family.

This fundraiser was created and being monitored by family friend, Robert Garcia. All donations will be provided directly to Isabel and her family. Thanks in advance for supporting Isabel on this difficult journey.
