Hello,
My name is Sharla, I am Isaiah's mother, Isaiah is 9 years old and attends Castleberry Elementary, where he just finished the 3rd grade, and he also plays football for the Lake Worth Bullfrogs. On Monday May 22nd, it was a typically day just like any other. I picked him up from school, and since it is the end of the year, no homework so outside he went to play with one of his very good friends. Unfortunately, the events that happened next are so heart breaking for him and myself. All the sudden we hear a scream and crying like we have never heard before. I wouldn't want any parent to ever experience your child running full force to you holding his mouth covered in blood. His friend and he were playing golf in their front yard. Isaiah was struck in the mouth by accident with the golf club. He was crying uncontrollable, with his hands over his mouth covered in blood. I rushed him to Cooks Hospital, they issued him a prescription for liquid codeine, and he was treated and released some time later. At this point, all I could think was thank God, no fracture to his jaw, cheek or nose. We were told to go to his dentist and the treatment would continue there, as there wasn’t anything that the on-call dentist at cooks could do with all the swelling. At this point he is not able to return to school, Thankfully they are finished on Thursday. But he was unable to attend his graduation, his Main Event trip for completing his achieve 3000 goal. He didn't get to say goodbye to his classmate. We are blessed that his class, wrote him get well cards, and that they would miss him. He was very happy to recieve those.
Today Weds 24th of May, was his first appointment. They took X-ray's and did a complete inspection of his mouth at Signature Smile. His dentist informed me that he has multiple fractures in his top teeth, and 3 minor fractures in the bottom teeth. These are his permanent teeth. He let me know that he will need multiple root canals due to the nerve damage caused. That he will also need multiple porcelain crowns on the damaged teeth. He believes that one tooth might not be savable. He scheduled him another appointment for two weeks from now on June 8th, to take more X-rays and said he will have a recovery plan put together for him. He said at that point he is hoping that the swelling and bruising will go down enough to examine the area in detail. I have dental Insurance on him, but because he is only 9 years old. His insurance will not cover the porcelain crowns, they only cover these once the child reaches the age of 13. These porcelain crowns cost $800 dollars each, and he needs at least 4. He also let me know that with my insurance they will only cover 2 of the root canals not all of them, which will be another out of pocket cost.
My heart is broken for my sweet, loving, and caring little boy! The dentist estimated that the out of pocket cost would be anywhere between 5,000 to 6,000 dollars. He will have multiple trips to the dentist over the next few months to make repairs. This once outgoing, fun, energetic little boy is now feeling ashamed and embarrassed that he has missing/fractured teeth. Please help me and my family bring his smile back. Any donation will help no matter how big or small. I will continue to post updates about his recovery and follow up visits. I have pictures of the damage casued if I need to post those. I didn't because again he is very affraid of what people will say. :(
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Love,
One broken hearted Mother
