On Sunday, October 15, 2017 the world lost a incredible young warrior known as Isaiah Cuevas. Fourteen-year-old Isaiah is survived by his mother, Marisol, and 5 siblings: Cesar (22), Briana (17), Jesse (15), AJ (8), Eli (7). He was well known by his family, friends, and the local Santa Ana community for his great sense of humor, magnetic smile, and natural leadership ability. Never one to miss an opportunity for a good laugh, Isaiah’s life effectively left behind for all who knew him a treasure trove of joyful memories. At the core of Isaiah’s character, was a deep concern and care for others. He possessed a keen sense of other’s feelings. The level of empathy and compassion he showed were well beyond a typical 14-year-old-- and some adults. That said, Isaiah took pleasure in all the typical activities of a boy his age: skateboarding, soccer, baseball, football, handball, listening to hip-hop music, and much more. In school, he enjoyed learning mathematics and being with his friends. When he talked about his future, Isaiah indicated that he aspired to join the Marines, like his uncle, or pursue the automotive program at Santa Ana College. With his warm, outgoing disposition, infectious positivity, and unforgettable smile; Isaiah was a stranger to nobody.
In the fall of 2015, Isaiah developed a lump in his foot and was subsequently diagnosed with a rare stage IV cancer (Round Cell Sarcoma). As a result, the majority of his right foot was amputated, but not before the cancer spread to his lungs. This warrior fought through chemotherapy, radiation, experimental medications, surgeries, and still, every day, he wanted to to go to school. He wanted to learn, and to grow, and to be with his friends. Isaiah seemed be making progress in his battle, but eventually the increasingly aggressive cancer spread to his brain. In the face of more treatments and operations, our little warrior never let up in his fight to live, but God took him for a greater purpose. It is with heavy hearts we must say goodbye and take comfort in knowing he is now at peace.
Looking into the future, Isaiah's family will honor his memory by carrying forth his sense of joy. Your donations, no matter the size, will help ensure this by alleviating the enormous costs incurred during this devastating battle, including Isaiah's funeral. Your support is needed and appreciated. God bless!
