It Runs in the Family

Hello, my name is Jill Viles. The woman beside me is Priscilla Schliep. She won a bronze medal in the 2008 Summer Olympics in the 100-meter hurdles. Priscilla and I share neighboring mutations of the same gene. Scientists are studying how Priscilla became remarkably strong, and I became very weak despite sharing such an unusual genetic tie. Hopefully, this may someday lead to a treatment for Emery-Dreifuss muscular dystrophy.
