Hi ,my names Lucy ,im 22 yrs old ,here's a little bit about me and why I'd love your help to do a fundraiser.
I was rushed to the golden jubilee national hospital 7 weeks ago after been given the most scariest news of my life ,I had heart failure ( DILATED CARDIOMYOPATHY ) I hadn't felt in great health for a couple of yrs ,I suffered with My mental health and anxiety and always thought it was palpitations caused through anxiety .the Dr's also thought it was all caused through stress ,I worked 12 hour shifts and looking back I seemed too have compensated living life the best was I could .After things steadily getting worse for me I went back to my GP and got signed off my work.(again with stress and palpitations) after 2 weeks I didn't feel any better so went back to the GPs again .I had an ECG the GP found I had an extra heartbeat and ectopic rhythm but they weren't worried because I was young.so I was off my work for another week...but the following night(Tuesday)I was struggling to breath and the pain was getting worse. Mum assisted me to the DGRI(our local hospital).on the Friday of that week..I was being discharged from hospital with beta blockers .I took far more unwell ,i was being sick, pain in my chest radiating through to my back ,i was yellow .and fortunately didn't actually leave the hospital .that afternoon I had an Eco scan ,CT scan and the results were instant I was in heart failure. That night I was rushed up to the golden jubilee in Glasgow.. the plan was to save my heart originally but that was abruptly was taken away 4 days later. The projection of my heart deteriorated to (only 13 )and should be around 65 .and all my other organs were being badly affected. So that night I needed too be put on more support (intra aortic balloon pump ) I had many stumbling blocks (drs would say bumps in the road ) mum said mountain's, I was HIT positive basically an allergic reaction to a drug called HEPARIN. I had to be parked up on the heart transplant waiting list. I needed a treatment called plasma pharesis (3 rounds ) within hour's all the plastic in my body was infected (balloon pump ,central lines .e.t.c again stopping me from going back on the list .7 days later I got another infection. Then The week after my heart and other organs were deteriorating again so i needed more support .this time it was ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) this machine done all the work of the heart and lungs .I don't remember much about it , I was so sick ,4 days later I got an offer of a donor heart and the transplant went ahead .I was ventilated for 6 days after wards .gradually i come off all my supports and went back to the heart failure ward to start my recovery 6 days later ...I'm so pleased to say my recovery is going really well and I'm going home to put my feet up soon (all the meds are such a small price to paye for a brand new life ❤️).i can't thank my donor family enough for giving me the best gift In life ❤️ and to the golden jubilee for their exceptional care and dedication ,they saved my life , I'll always keep a special place in my heart for the whole team of Dr's and nurses & ICU staff (all domestic staff ,catering staff ,hotel staff )everyone played a big part ❤️
The reason I'd love to give something back is because THANK YOU will never be enough!! NSD is like home from home .the funding pot is there to help anyone who needs it and if the ward need(patient use) tvs ,computers,chair/ beds ,appliances, the goal would be to buy some over night sleepers / chair beds .
My mum and family often stayed over night but sat on plastic chairs (not the comfiest ) thank you for reading my story your life can drastically change in HEART BEAT! this is the only heart transplant specialist hospital in Scotland .we are so lucky to have such a fantastic heart & lung service close to home .
