It's time to raise a yurt!

Rootstock Retreat was born into the heart of Beana Bern back in 2017, and it was born out of the hands of her, Brian, and many others over the last five years...

Even before there was infrastructure, there were circles of people gathering around fire, around creativity, and around healing. The dream seed inside Beana's imagination had gravity and heft. The hill itself was in on it and here we stand, 5 years later, inside a thriving conscious community, imagination farm, and rustic elemental healing center.

  • Over 4000+ hours of therapeutic medicine work has been facilitated by Beana here since Rootstock's inception for close to ~450 people from all over the United States and abroad.
  • Hundreds of circles for women, men, and people have explored how to co-create, collaborate, and heal in community with people coming from far and wide to participate, learn, and reclaim their creative spark.
  • Hundreds of people have been immersed into water by fire, naked to the world and held by the elements, returning to a deep love of the Earth and all our relations. More people than we can count have walked barefoot in the forest or harvested a carrot for the first time here and found themselves safe and connected to the natural world.
  • Many gifted healers, teachers, and facilitators from our local community and beyond have brought their gifts here to share in the form of ceremony, dance, yoga, meditation, herbalism, geomancy, medicine work, contemplation, creative play and more.
  • Countless hands have put prayers into fires here, chopped wood and carried water, weeded gardens, and generously shared their love and support to help keep this miracle thriving.

It's been a life-changing and affirming journey into 'building the world we want to inhabit,' and there is great desire and potential to keep this critical and creative place in service.

In the last four years, we have raised a Tipi for our ceremonies, a greenhouse for food cultivation, a Bunkhouse for our guests, an extraordinary wood-fired bathhouse and elemental healing sanctuary, an outdoor kitchen and a gorgeous masonry oven, a compost station for food scraps and humanure, and a small off-grid eco-village with two dwellings, some campsites, and an outhouse. Except for one generous low-interest loan of $30,000 from a community member, Beana has funded all of this creation with her own dedicated service, unwavering love, and, of course, the devoted help of her co-creator and many others who built and schlepped and cleaned and carried and made this dream manifest.

Most, if not all, of this glorious work, has required Beana's home to work. Her beautiful log cabin has been a temple for many hundreds of people and thousands of hours of service and healing and it's time to create a dedicated space to hold our sacred work.

IT'S TIME TO BUILD THE TEMPLE (...er, raise the yurt!)

A 30' arctic yurt from Nomad Shelters in Homer, Alaska is our preferred choice. This rugged and beautiful yurt is designed for cold, northern winters and is the perfect addition to Rootstock's humble and beautiful center.

We will locate this where the Tipi currently stands, in the orchard and at the top of the gardens. It will be heated with propane and wood fire backup and will include a vestibule complete with a composting outhouse, space for shoes & jackets, a utility closet, and two porches for sitting.

Our beloved Tipi will move South, up the hill, to a small plateau East of the Dragon Rock where it will shift it's service to supporting mens & womens circles, Vision Quests, Self-Guided Ceremonies, and deep retreats. It will enjoy a deep clean and treatment before moving and, in case you were wondering, Yes!, the Crystal Path will be moving with the Tipi.

This is a big ask and a humble project.

The goal is not to keep growing Rootstock bigger and wider, but rather, to deepen our capacity to serve in a way that is aligned with the life we want to live on this hill. This investment will increase our capacity to serve by giving us the deep winter months to keep healing. A dedicated temple space will anchor all that we've built here and allow us to stay in service.

In 2022 Beana guided 88 individuals through the Medicine Retreat to support their healing and evolution. Our new temple space increases our capacity by almost double that, and creates space for 2-3 more Guides to bring their integrity and vision to this sacred hill, as well as a much-needed dancefloor in deep winter!

What will this money pay for? Here are some estimates:

  • $10,000 - Earthwork and site preparation
  • $50,000 - Yert Materials & Creation
  • $10,000 - Heating & Electric Infrastructure
  • $20,000 - Interior finishing
  • $10,000 - Landscaping & incidentals

Our goal is to raise the first half of this funding by October 2023 so we can raise the structure before the snow flies. Then, over the course of the next year, we'll aim to gather the remaining funding to finish the space and welcome in the next era of service, conscious community, healing, and stewardship.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and for any energy you've exchanged with us in the process. Any amount that you feel called to share will support the work we do.

Though the point of this campaign is to help me, Beana, keep helping others...I can't help but try and spice things up with some incentives. I really need some heavy lifters to believe in me and this vision and make this miracle happen.
