I'm raising money to benefit those in need of temporary financial support. Through A Good Day Society Foundation donations will be used to help make an impact on the lives of those who face unforeseen circumstances which leave them in a financial bind... possibly on the brink of, or even already homeless.
I was one of those people. A series of events led me to my financial struggle.
- Layoff from work which led to a 60% decrease in pay
- While my partner was contributing to the household, I was the primary source of income.
- Then, shortly after, I found myself a single parent with a new born baby (11 days old) and a 5 year-old.
- On maternity leave without pay and unable to get a release to go back to work until my baby was 4 weeks old--I returned to work when Caleb was 4 weeks and 1 day.
- However, by that time, I was behind on the mortgage, utilities, and credit card payments.
Of course, I stopped paying credit cards and focused on our core needs, primarily feeding my boys and keeping a roof over their heads. I was fortunate because I had family who pitched in to help, despite the state being able to offer assistance who informed me I made too much money to qualify--even for temporary assistance!
- When I discovered black mold in my house, I did not have the funds to mitigate.
- I knew I could not keep the kids there. We walked away.
- While we did not lose EVERYTHING, we essentially started over.
Sometimes people just need a little--which can go a long way. I had a lot of family support and worked my tail off to provide for my boys. We slowly saved and lived minimally. A few years later, I started my own business which is now (2024) 13 years successful, rebuilt my credit, and made many good choices to rebuild our lives. We laughed and loved one another along the way. My boys are my favorite humans who make me smile every day!
If I can give back (or forward) I want to make it happen whenever possible.
