Hi everyone! I am Itzel Garcia. I am from Baltimore, Maryland and a current upcoming sophomore at Towson University with a major in Criminal Justice and minor in Spanish. I am a first generation high school graduate and I am the first one in my family to be attending college. I graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute with a 3.8GPA and received two diplomas. One of my biggest dreams has been to attend college and graduate successfully but there are some complications. DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) is an immigration policy that allows undocumented students to work, attend school, and exemption from deportation. As a DACA student I am unable to apply for financial aid, loans, and accept scholarships. Therefore, it has made paying for my studies more challenging without the help of those resources. During my freshmen year of college I worked two jobs and remained a full-time student. I lost myself during the year, I was always tired and stressed about how I was going to afford school. It was definitely hard to pay for the first year by myself with some help from my parents but I NEVER gave up. I come from a middle class household where we make just enough for our expenses but not big enough for an expense such as college. Neither of my parents finished school which pushes me to work harder; not only for them but for myself. I am currently only working one job and looking for another. However, I do not have enough to cover this upcoming year expenses. I am seeking for help! The last thing I want to do is give up. I will continue to work hard and push through. Every little penny you are able to donate helps me a lot. I will greatly appreciate all of the help. May God bless you!
