Sara Allen, a teacher's aide and youth sports coach at Groton Elementary School, was diagnosed with breast cancer in July, 2010. She had a double mastectomy followed by radiation and multiple chemotherapy treatments. A sense of normalcy had returned until two years later, when she started having seizures and a tumor was found in her brain. Since that time, she has had two craniotomies, and too many radiation and chemo treatments to count. Following her second brain surgery, she could not move the entire left side of her body. Through hard work, weight training, physical therapy, strength, and determination, she fought her way back to walking and driving. The cancer has since spread to her liver and spine. Sara has handled all of this like a champ and always with a sense of humor. She is a role model and inspiration for all of us.
Just before Thanksgiving, Sara was admitted to the hospital for gallstones. After successful treatment for the gallstones, she developed a very severe case of pancreatitis due to the procedure. Doctors assured her this was not related to her cancer in any way, but it has been one of her toughest battles. Her hospital stay ended up being almost four weeks.
To help make life just a little easier for Sara, we are asking for donations for the Allen family for two projects- (1) to renovate her shower to improve access and safety, and (2) to renovate her outdoor steps, making it easier to get in and out of the house. She has endured so much with strength, grace, humor, and courage. This is just a little something that we can do to help her out.
Sara is an inspiration to all who cross paths with her. She has endured more than anyone should ever have to, always with a positive attitude and smile on her face. She is loved by so many. Her and her husband, Jason, have a daughter, Jaedyn, who is 15, and triplets Isaac, Elisa, and Katelyn, who are 9. We have had so many friends, family, and community members reach out to ask how they can help. Here is one small way that you can make a difference. Any donation, big or small, is greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance and feel free to spread the word.
