Ivan Alexander Terriquez
November 5th 1997 - July 17, 2023

For those that knew Ivan, they can attest to the light, joy, and positivity he carried everywhere he went. He was the most dedicated and loving son, cousin, and friend. He never hesitated to put his own agenda aside to help others in need, whether through school, teaching, or a listening ear. Ivan's acts of kindness and genuine concern for others were an inspiration to everyone, reflecting the true essence of a compassionate and selfless individual.

Ivan's love of music began in 7th grade, when he joined the Harwood Junior High Band to play trombone. Band became a never-ending passion throughout middle and high school. Ivan continued playing the trombone through his high school years at Trinity High School. He eagerly participated in all available varieties of band, such as concert band, marching band, jazz band, and community ensembles.

His continuing passion for music led him to join the TCU Marching Band in 2016, through extended education, before his formal admission in the spring semester of 2017. Graduating in 2021 with his Music Education degree, Ivan accepted the opportunity to teach music at his own former middle school, Harwood Junior High School. In fact, he taught alongside the very same director who had first taught him. Every day he worked, his joy and enthusiasm for music inspired the same in his students.

The establishment of The Ivan Terriquez Memorial Scholarship Fund will be to honor the memory of Mr. Terriquez. “Mr. T” (as his students affectionately called him) always believed any student that wanted to participate in band should be able to be a part of band, no matter their ability to pay. Everyone that wants to play should get a chance. The scholarship fund will provide aid toward the cost of private lessons for students that otherwise would not be able to. This scholarship is open all for current band students in the Harwood Junior High Band. Scholarships may be available for one or more students for half or the full cost of private lessons, as funds are available. The Harwood Junior High Band program hopes to be able to fundraise in the future to sustain the funds for this scholarship.
