Ivan Toney's St Vincent Volcano Relief Fund
Donation protected
Thank you very much for taking the time to visit my GoFundMe page, which I have set up to raise much needed funds for and to support the people directly affected by the eruption, last Friday (9 April 2021), of La Soufriere volcano which is situated on the Caribbean island of Saint Vincent.
Whilst this devastating humanitarian crisis is developing daily, it has been widely reported that, to date, approximately 20,000 people, including many children, have had to be evacuated from their homes since La Soufriere began erupting. Many of those displaced are now living in temporary shelters which lack basic services such as safe drinking water, which is largely the result of the volcanic ash contaminating water supplies.
For those of you who do not know, Saint Vincent is an island incredibly close to mine and my family's hearts. My father’s parents, my grandparents, were both born on Saint Vincent, and are both now buried there in Georgetown, which is one of the towns categorised as being within the Red Zone – a place considered at the highest risk. One of my father’s most recent, fondest memories of his mother was actually visiting La Soufriere together back in 2017, a year before she passed away. To this day, we still have close family and friends who live on the island and as a family, we have visited many times throughout my life. I want to help as much as I possibly can and I would love and greatly appreciate your support in doing so, by joining me in providing a donation, no matter how big or small.
100% of the money that we raise via this page will be utilised to directly help and assist those who need it the most on Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, which will be achieved by working closely with local charities and organisations situated on the islands. Conversations are already underway with how best to utilise the funds raised, which will inevitably include the provision of drinking water, clothes, food and other essential items, as well as to be put towards the clean-up effort which is likely to take considerable time and lots of resources. I will endeavour to keep you updated in the coming days and weeks of how the funds raised will be put to the best and most effective use possible.
Again, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading this, and with your kind donations, I really hope that we can help and support as many people directly affected by this tragic event as possible.
Thank you,
Ivan.
