I've got MND - can you help us?
Donation protected
Hi, I'm Dan. I am 35 years old, I live in London with my pregnant wife, Sophie, and our 2 year old daughter.
At the end of 2023 I was diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease.
MND is a cruel disease, which slowly paralyzes your entire body until you are unable to breathe. There is no cure and the typical life expectancy is 2-3 years.
In the short period since my diagnosis, I've gone from being your average young dad, to being unable to stand up, walk or feed myself and now rely on my family and carers to take care of me.
Despite this earth shattering news, I am determined that in midst all of this change that we are able to stay in our family home. My hope is that this constant will provide some comfort to my young family as we navigate this difficult journey ahead of us.
However, our home is far from accessible which has resulted in me being stuck inside, unable to leave the building since January.
Undeterred by the complexities of living in a second floor flat, we've come with a radical plan. To create an accessible extension that will provide for all my evolving requirements and allow me to leave my home safely.
MND is not a cheap disease to live with and we need help to make these changes. Anything you can donate is gratefully received, and will go towards adapting our home.
Brick by brick we will make this happen.
We have had amazing support so far, including from our wonderful neighbours who have gifted us the land, architects Studio Hallett Ike who have put together the drawings and the local community who helped support the planning application.
Thank you for any support you may be able to offer. It will all make the world of difference to me and my family.
If you are able to share this it would be hugely appreciated.
Take care
Dan
