And I would bike 300 miles...⚽
Hi! I'm Alex, from Edinburgh in Scotland.
My Dad, Alan, was diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour in Autumn 2023 and, having been a very active and fit 71-year-old, sadly died 11 weeks later.
He loved playing and watching football and attended Scotland games with me. Our long-held ambition was to finally be able to travel to see the national team at a major tournament, and we enjoyed the thrill of them qualifying for Euro 2024. Before his diagnosis, we had made plans to travel to Germany, one of my Dad's favourite countries, for the European Championship 2024, where Scotland will play.
In his memory, a group of friends and I will cycle the 300+ miles from Edinburgh to Cologne, setting off on the day Scotland play their opening match of the tournament against Germany and arriving in Cologne in time for their game against Switzerland. Aside from making the trip in honour and in memory of my Dad, we have decided to raise funds, through sponsorship of our considerable efforts, for a charity that I hope — one day — may find the solution to preventing the suffering such as that my Dad went through.
Any donation will help make a difference. Thank you in advance for your contribution to this cause, which would mean so much to me and my fellow intrepid cyclists as we proceed from Edinburgh > Coldstream > North Shields (for the ferry to the Netherlands) > Ijmuiden > Amsterdam > Kleve > Cologne.
