Story:
Logan James Stephenson was born on May 30th, 2014 at 5:08 PM. He was born with a bilateral cleft lip & palate. This means that there is an opening in the upper lip & roof of the mouth that did not close completely when he was forming.
As a result of the cleft, Logan will have 2 surgeries before his 1st birthday and will also go through a process called Nasoalveolar Molding to prepare him for a successful surgery. This process is essentially a "retainer" that shifts Logan's bone structure into place where it will be easier to fuse the opening in his lip surgically. Since this process is new & not surgical in itself, it is not covered by insurance.
Logan will have his first surgery on January 30th to repair his lip. By the time he is 1, he will have had a second surgery that will repair the palate. It is possible that, as he grows, Logan will have to have surgeries in the future, but with the process we're going through in the first year, our goal is to minimize any potential future surgeries.
The Stephenson's will be out of pocket over $15,000.00 for just medical expenses alone.
