I had my entire collection of artifacts confiscated from my home in Feb. of 2013. I was targeted in the operation Timucua. I had over 4,000 artifacts taken which are now in the possession of the Dept of State in Florida. None of which have I been charged criminally for. Within my plea agreement there is a path for their safe return. Those that are deemed legal that is. I have worked with 2 officers with the FWC to facilitate this return and I am continually frustrated in all my attempts. Although I have had over 400 items returned I am seeking the return of the majority that I know are legal. Upon request I provided provenance to the FWC and identified where the items in the collection came from. Since I have lived all my life in the Middle Georgia area hundreds of miles from Florida, most of the collection was from Georgia or Alabama. These were all legally obtained.

For the items that were from Florida again the vast majority of these were reported under the Isolated Finds Program and are thus legally my personal property. For instance over 1,500 artifacts were from a collection that I had purchased. These were all reported to the state under the IFP.  Beyond this many artifacts were land finds from private property and are legal to own. Also the personal finds that I had found and reported under the IFP have to date still not been returned to me. All I ask for is to be treat fairly and with justice.

Before my arrest it was my intention to report my entire Florida collect to the state but the IFP was repealed and this alienated non-professional collectors such as myself. There was no longer any avenue for any cooperation. I have always tried to work with archeologist whenever I could. About my character; ask Scott Mitchell with the Silver River Museum who I was working with to facilitate additions to that museum of some ivory fore-shafts that were collected back in the 1960’s. I had located them and had a willing party ready to give them to the museum. And then my arrest occurred and stopped all cooperation. I helped the late Dr. Jerald Ledbetter document Georgia and Alabama Paleo sites and volunteered my time on digs and even contributed to several of his publication.

Please put yourself in my place and think how you would feel to have 40 plus years of your life and your collection taken away. I now have hired another Attorney to pick up where my last attorneys left off. I have not even paid off the loan for first attorney fees yet. The sum is over $40,000. Your contribution will help relieve at least a portion of the financial burden that my family and I bear. By these artifacts being returned to me we all send a message that this kind of government overreach is not acceptable. Help me receive the justice I deserve. Thank you in advance for any and all help.
