A REBEL WITH A CAUSE IS FIGHTING BREAST CANCER!
#JJAYESBYEBYEBOOBIESFUND
Julia Jaye, also affectionately and lovingly known as "J.Jaye,” was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in October 2019. This news was a huge shock to this wonderful and faithful family. The costs for Cancer treatment with exceptionally high-deductible insurance is astronomical. Any amount matters! Please help! This situation is URGENT and concerning for this loving and great family!
The type of cancer J.Jaye has is Grade 1 Stage 2A. The official medical diagnosis indicated that the cancer is an estrogen and progesterone hormone receptor tumor. The tumor is fed by 80% estrogen and 100% by progesterone. J.Jaye will have a Double Mastectomy at Methodist Hospital in Richardson on December 11, 2019 in order to start treating the Breast Cancer. After the procedure, it is possible that the stage of the cancer will change. A full pathology report will be done to determine whether Chemotherapy and Radiation treatments will be needed as well. The recommended treatments for the long-term management of her breast cancer are unknown.
Julia Jaye "J.Jaye" Hackney Van Sickel was born to Mitchell, a US Navy Veteran, and Jane Hackney on May 29, 1969 in beautiful British Columbia, Canada. Her parents, who are American citizens, were resident missionaries helping to support the Oak Ridge Church of Christ in British Columbia for 10 years. While in Canada she attended Harbour View Elementary and when she was eight years old, her family moved to Kirkland, Washington in 1977 where she attended John Muir Elementary. She then attended Kamiakin Jr. High and graduated from Juanita High School in Kirkland in 1987. Juanita High School’s Mascot is a Rebel with the infamous motto “Once a Rebel, always a Rebel!" Therefore, we have dubbed J.Jaye as "A Rebel with a Cause!" beCause she is going to fight and beat this Breast Cancer!!!
While in high school, she participated in the Art and Music programs. More specifically Concert Singers and Vocal Jazz, and, she discovered her hidden artistict talent in her junior year. She was honored to be chosen by the art teacher, Lee Bogle, to be in a class specifically created to beautify the school. She was thrilled to design and paint a mural for the music department. Later, she attended and graduated from Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas in 1992 with a BA in Fine Arts and a minor in music; even after being delayed graduating due to a serious bout with mononucleosis that required her to drop out while she healed. While at ACU, J.Jaye was in A Cappella, His Singers, and Vocal Jazz and actively involved in their activities. She served as Vice President of A Cappella one year and Fundraising Chair another year. Her time at ACU, and the lifelong friends she made at all of the schools where she received her education are cherished and treasured memories.
J.Jaye is employed as an Office Manager in the autobody repair industry. She has also served as a board member on Mendenhall Elementary PTA since 2008 in various positions while her children attended and is now the current Vice President even though her children no longer attend there. J.Jaye loves making amazing 3D cakes and custom items for special occasions and everything in-between. She has operated under the Texas Cottage Food Law as Sugarella's Sweet Things since 2011. J.Jaye also loves to dance! Everything from country to disco to swing dancing and would love to learn ballroom! She loves painting, refinishing furniture, interior decorating, and working out - especially weight lifting!
Julia/J.Jaye has been married to Jason Van Sickel for 17 years - since March 23, 2002. They are currently raising their two beautiful children, Sophia and Redding, in Plano, Texas. Jason was born in Baton Rouge, LA but their family moved around a lot. Jason's father was a Marine (Oorah!) in the military, as were many other family members. Jason attended several schools throughout Texas and Canada but he and his mother eventually moved to Dallas in the 80's and this is where he calls home.
Their daughter, Sophia, is 17 years-old and a junior in high school. She is a cheerleader for her school and enrolled in the Health Science Academy there and has chosen a career path of Anesthesiology. Sophia is also a member of the National Honor Society and in her fourth year of French; and hopes to join the French National Honor Society soon! Sophia loves to attend her church youth group and paint, as well getting behind the wheel to DRIVE! She would love to get her license, but their financial difficulties have impeded their ability pay for the increased car insurance. Their son Redding is 13 years-old and in the 7th grade. He is a geography and history buff (Seriously! Quiz him!) He also enjoys soccer, football, hockey, and basketball as well as attending youth group. As a family, they LOVE to play board and card games! Jason, J.Jaye and their support system are doing their best to maintain normalcy and keep a positive, and joyful attitude for their children throughout their cancer journey, as cancer affects the whole family!
J.Jaye’ s family carries Health Insurance that has a very high deductible and does not cover many of the medical needs this family will face in the immediate future. Due to the diagnosis being so late in the year, they will have to meet the deductible for this year AND next year, and who knows how many years afterward. This diagnosis has compounded their financial stress as J.Jaye, and both of her children were born with bilateral cleft lips and palates. A birth defect that requires multiple costly reconstructive surgeries to the roof of the mouth (palate), nose, upper lip and often the jaws and gums as the child grows. In addition to the surgeries there is LOTS of dental and orthodontic work to be done. Although J. Jaye has completed this process (for the most part), both Redding and Sophia have many more surgeries, as well as dental and orthodontic work ahead them.
J.Jaye/Julia and her family's immediate financial needs are helping to pay for: surgeries/procedures, physical therapy, medical supplies and follow up appointments. The family would be extremely grateful with the assistance of utilities, groceries, rent and gas for vehicles to and from all medical facilities/appointments, and parking costs. In addition, funds to obtain a safe and reliable vehicle for the family due to J.Jaye's totaled but currently drivable 2002 Hyundai Santa Fe. All of J.Jaye's fellow employees have advised her, "DON’T DRIVE VERY FAR AND GET A NEW CAR!"
J.Jaye loves Jesus, God and her church and has a very strong faith. J.Jaye has clung to her favorite verse since she was twelve years old which is Romans 8:28, "All things work together for good for those who love the Lord and are called according to His purpose." J.Jaye has hope, a future, and a purpose and is striving to minister to others as she is on this journey.
