Drag is Not a Crime

Hi, my name is Nick, also known as Mrs. Chastity Cage. I am a drag performer in rural Ontario. For about a year straight I have been dealing with threats and hate from several individuals who all seem to have it in their heads that drag is a crime and wrong. I have had threats called into my work place, my family, and my peers. One of these individuals herself has a sister with the St. Thomas Police. Throughout this past year I have gone to the police about the multiple threats of violence and slander that has come my way. Everytime the police have said they are unable to do anything. Around mid May of this year on my walk to work, one of these individuals did yell death threats to me on my way to my day job. After phoning the police around five hours later I had an officer attend my work place and take a statement. An arrest was made, finally. I was under the impression that the text messages I received from the person making threats the day prior was enough for the police to charge them. A court date was set and I stated multiple times all I ever really wanted was a peace bond to be issued!

June 30th I produced a drag show at a local bar, during first intermission many of us were outside for a breather and witnessed both individuals that have been threatening me for the past year drive passed screaming profanity and threats yet again. I was told if that was to happen to call 911 immediately as this was a breach of his conditions. I did, not one officer responded to the call.

On July first I was having drinks with my husband and a friend when checking my TikTok. I had seen comments all over my TikTok to "check my voicemail" and that there was a warrant out for my arrest.

On July 2nd I did check my voicemail and there was a message from an officer asking me to return his call. Seeing as I had no response to my 911 call two days prior I did just that, they were out of office so I left a voicemail. On Monday July 3rd the threats and accusations over TikTok were to the point I did send an email to the St. Thomas Police again, at this point I received a phone call from a different officer informing me that there is a warrant out for my arrest. I went into the police station that Wednesday, was officially arrested for public mischief and found out the warrant wasn't actually signed until July 4th. Yet somehow everyone knew about this. While there I was instructed to continue to report anything to the police, even though that is why I was in fact arrested.

The two individuals that have been constantly harassing me daily have made everything extremely public, even talking about how their sister within the St.Thomas Police has informed her they would be "making an example of me"

Any and all funds raised will be going directly to legal fees as it has been made very clear that these charges against me are there to keep my mouth shut and stifle my rights. All while those that threaten my life, call me a groomer, and use the f slur daily get to continue to slander my name freely.

I will not stop fighting for our rights as 2SLGBTQIA+ nor the rights of any marginalized minority. Even when the police themselves stand against us!
