Knox’s Journey

This is a knox, he is three years old. In his short life, he has been through more than any kid should ever have to. As an infant, Knox contracted bacterial meningitis and was flown from our small community to Primary Children’s. This was a very scary and hard experience for his parents and this was their first baby. Knox fought for his life for his first three months of life!

This would be the first of many flights! He had shunts placed into his head to help drain excess spinal fluid out of the ventricles in his brain. Shunts are an actual medical miracle, however, they tend to fail in a lot of cases. This is what has happened to Knox time and time again. This causes all the extra fluid to stay in his brain causing extreme pain and endless hours of discomfort and can be fatal if not treated immediately. Just this month they have had to be flown out three separate times and have three separate brain surgeries! Emergency room visits here in our small town always end up with another flight out. It is a six hour drive. Both of his parents are warriors just like him and have done everything, and more to help their little boy. They also have a little one year old girl and having to spend time away from her is not easy.

Taking time off work, they have taken all their paid time off they earned. The cost is gas, food and unpaid leave has put a stress on this sweet little family.
