Canine Adoption and Rescue League Needs Our Help!

Tax deductible
Canine Adoption and Rescue League (C.A.R.L.) is a Ventura County based 501(c)(3), no-kill, all breed dog rescue and adoption organization. Since 1996, they have been  vital to our community.  The number of dogs in their program fluctuates on a daily basis, but on average it is around 105. The majority of the dogs have either been rescued from shelters, or are owner relinquishments from families who can no longer care for their pets. All of these dogs have been given medical treatment, grooming and if needed training in order to get them ready for their forever homes.

Each year C.A.R.L. spends around $130,000 on emergency and regular veterinary care for their dogs. This amount does not include costs for training, or the boarding expenses for the dogs who are not in foster homes.   Unfortunately C.A.R.L. has been recently inundated with an overwhelming amount of medical expenses. They currently owe over $15,000  to the local emergency animal hospital and local veterinarian. This amount continues to grow daily. Many of the charges are for routine blood work, dentals, spays, neuters, ultrasound, treatments for allergies, ear infections, abscesses, minor and major surgeries such as  tumor removals, amputations and more. Several dogs are on prescription diets specialized to their medical needs which alone can cost $100 or more per dog, per month. C.A.R.L. takes pride in the quality of care that they provide each dog that is brought into their program.  They make sure that they do all that is necessary to get them healthy and ready for adoption.

There are certain tragic cases when a family in our community reaches out to C.A.R.L.  when they can no longer care for and pay for their dog. Ranger is a perfect example. He is a young cattle dog who ended up at the emergency hospital after crashing from an undiagnosed disease. It turned out that Ranger has diabetes. His family could not afford his current or future medical bills and asked C.A.R.L. to help him find a family who could. In the meantime, C.A.R.L. paid (and is still paying) for Ranger’s medical care. He continues to be tested in order to discover which type of daily injection and dosage of medication works best for him.  He is still looking for his forever family who can give him his two injections a day, and love him unconditionally.

Our community needs organizations like Canine Adoption and Rescue League as a resource to those who need help with rehoming their dog. A group willing to save a medical dog from a kill shelter and give it a second chance. A rescue who provides volunteer opportunities, education and resources to the public. We need C.A.R.L. just as much as they need us.  It is hard for a 501(c)(3) non-profit to stay afloat without the financial support from its community. Please consider donating to Canine Adoption and Rescue League’s Medical Fund. Let’s help them get back on their feet again so that they can continue to do what they do best...save one dog at a time. All donations are tax deductible. Any excess money raised will be rolled over to C.A.R.L.'s general operations fund.   Please share. Thank you for your support!
