Feed the Children of Supingstad
We have been sponsoring the South African local community of Supingstad now for several years.. but it has not had anything impact it in the way that the Covid19 Pandemic has.. 95% of the community rely on work from the nearby Game lodges and Game parks which have now been closed for weeks and all employees have been sent home.
The schools are currently closed due to the pandemic. There are 800 primary school students, and 200 high school students. Many of these students do not get food at home and were reliant on meals at school for their primary nutrition.
Now that the schools are closed, the children are going hungry.
Families receive approx $170 per month in unemployment benefits.. and to even receive this they need to drive over an hour away and wait in a 3 hour queue. Many have no transport and no means to provide for themselves or their families.
This community supports each other with income earners supporting up to 10 and 15 family members. Sometimes on as little as US$300 per month from their gross salary when they are able to earn a wage.
We have over the past few years built a small soup kitchen at the local school (but, the school is closed so even the kids aren't eating - sometimes for days on end) and we are now proposing to open this up to the village to be able to secure food each day through this period.
We are looking to raise US$7,686. This investment will contribute to 20,000 meals in a 5 week month. The SA government will also grant us $1000 towards this initiative.
The average cost of providing a meal is approximately $0.39c (this is assuming no subsidy is applied). A meal includes a porridge in the morning, the main meal, vitamin-enriched juice and hopefully a soup at lunch.
If you can give any support right now every $1 will pay for more than 2 meals and it will all count!
100% of these proceeds will go towards supporting this isolated local community
Please help if you can! We are all in this together.
