Joan Howard Cancer Fund
Donation protected
On December 21, 2016, Joan Howard went to the doctor with severe stomach pain. A cat scan revealed she had stage 4 pancreatic cancer. One can only imagine how life changing a diagnosis such as this can be. Joan has been self employed at Joan's Gymnastics as a gymnastics and cheer coach in Guntersville, Alabama for the past 30 years. The last 15 summers, she has also taught swimming lessons with Mrs. Kim. She has touched literally thousands of children's lives through gymnastics, cheerleading and swimming. Children have always brought such great joy to her life, and she in turn, does the same for the kids. They love her very much!!
Joan and her husband, Chuck, married 37 years ago after graduating from their beloved Auburn University. They lived in Luverne, Alabama, where she was the Highland Home Cheerleading Sponsor, bringing home two state championships in cheerleading. From there, they moved to Starkville, Mississippi before coming to Guntersville where Chuck was hired as the county agent. Together, they have three beautiful daughters and son in laws; Tiffanie and Matthew Hunter, Ginger and Casey Edwards and Alex and Wes Patterson. They also have two grandsons, Banks Edwards and Camden Patterson.
As word of her diagnosis quickly spread, prayers were sent up from all over the nation. She is a faithful follower of God and firmly believes in the power of prayer and God's ability to restore her health. On her PET scan on December 28, it showed no further spreading, which is a huge answered prayer. Please continue to pray for her health, the doctors taking care of her and that God will lead them and wrap his arms around her and her family so they will fill His presence with them every step of the way. Also, please keep her family in your prayers. As they are Joan's support system, they too, will need the love, support and prayers from family and friends.
With this unexpected illness, Joan has closed her gymnastics training facility so that she can put all her energy and focus into beating this cancer. Thankfully she is in good health otherwise, and this will allow her to take a more aggressive treatment. As we all know, medical bills will soon start coming in and with the loss of her income, we are asking the community to please donate what you can, so that all she has to focus on is getting better.
Updates will be posted here regularly, and as the financial needs change, the goal will also. Even if you can't help monetarily, your prayers, calls, messages and visits are greatly appreciated!
God bless you all!
