In 2013, a few believers came together for a weekly Bible study, seeking to meet and minister to those in the Florence community that are often forgotten, neglectived, and marginalized. It didn't take long to recognize that for those without homes in places like Florence, South Carolina, social services are lacking, and shelter facilities are often overwhelmed.
Recognizing that God uses ordinary people for extraordinary purposes, we asked the question, "Why not us?" With that, a shelter was born, and a church was established. Whosoever Community Church found a facility, and we began to host weekly Bible studies and a weekly worship service. As winter turned cold last year, we took in dozens of our city's homeless, providing heat, a meal, and shelter. Through the diligence of many and the donations of many more, we were able to keep the lights on through that period.
Today, Whosoever is a 365-day shelter, providing 11 hot meals per week and a comfortable place to sleep for, on average, 50 residents. We've grown from a Bible study of a few to a full-fledged ministry, seeking to meet the spiritual and physical needs of whatever residents God leads to our door.
Whosoever Community Church has seen a number of success stories, from dozens of people finding Jesus during services, to residents using our safe haven to pull their lives together.
Moving forward, we want to continue meeting the needs of the people of Florence and beyond. We envision a shelter where people not only come to be fed and warmed, but nourished emotionally and spiritually. Practically, we envision a mission where we help our residents get the practical help that they need to get on their feet, find a job, and live the lives they want to live.
We need your support to grow our ministry. Your donations will not only allow us to continue feeding and housing our residents, but they will allow us to invest in psychological services, a clothes closet for our residents who may have job interviews, and functional computer portals where individuals can fill out applications and receive assistance with resumes.
Our residents, like all people, have extraordinary potential, and while nourishing all of their needs, we hope to help them realize that potential. Your help in this ministry is necessary and appreciated.
