Dhabuhi Parmar - fundraising

Donation protected

This is the brave 14-month-old baby girl who is fighting for her life after a medical condition swelled her head to three times its usual size.

Our journalists travelled to a remote village in India to cover the plight of Dhabuhi, who is battling a severe form of hydrocephalus.

The rare condition leads to fluid accumulating inside the skull, and has seen Dhabuhi's head swell to 23 inches.

Because of the weight of her skull, she is unable to sit up and is mostly bedridden.

After the story broke online today (Friday September 25), there has been a huge flood of offers to donate to her cause in a bid to help her impoverished parents get her the medical support needed.

Caters News are working with top specialists in the Capital New Delhi to help Dhabuhi achieve the medical attention she needs.

Dr Vineet Bhushan, Paediatric Neurologist Apollo Hospitals, New Delhi said: "Hydrocephalus is a rare condition where the cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain. It could be congenital or acquired which means it could either be by birth or developed by the patient later.

"The main treatment for this condition is to plant a thin tube called a shunt which helps bypass the flow and drain excess fluid from the brain to other body cavities.

"This condition is common among children and a patient, if operated at the right time, can be saved. The operation can cost anywhere between £5000 - £10000."

3. Your relationship to the parties you're raising funds for
Our journalists based in Delhi met and documented Dhabuhi's story after finding out about her plight through local media. Upon visiting the village, it was clear that Dhabuhi's condition was severe and needed urgent medical attention.

Due to the severity of her condition, the remoteness of her village and her parents' poor financial state, we decided to produce a news story and distribute this to the global media to bring her case to the attention of medical professionals and the public - both in India and worldwide.

We subseqeuntly set up the GoFundMe page off the back of the sheer volume of requests Caters and media outlets running the story were receiving offering to donate to her cause and surgery.

4. How the funds will be spent
The funds will primarily be spent to facilitate a surgery aimed at reducing the size of her swollen head, and subsequently improving her quality of life.

Any surplus will be put into a trust fund to go twoards her education and future.

We are already in touch with two prominent, private hospitals in India about arranging care for Dhabuhi.

Her parents are aware of the moeny raised, and are naturally over the moon.

5. How you intend to get the funds to those in need

Through our link up with a private hospital in India, we will deliver the funds directly to them to provide for her medical care and attention.

Any surplus will be placed into a trust fund for her future care, education and other needs.
