Karen was in a car accident April 24, 2019. It was a low-impact/low-speed accident, but the result was a concussion and chronic whiplash. She now has Post Concussion Syndrome and continued Chronic Whiplash. She has also been diagnosed with Small Fiber Neuropathy which means her small nerve fibers are all damaged beyond repair as a result of the accident (Traumatic Brain Injury). She cannot handle normal stimuli as her brain translates any stimuli not as pressure, but as pain (Allodynia). She is also likely diagnosed with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (P.O.T.S.). Our neurologist has referred us to Mayo Clinic on Rochester, Minnesota. We are hoping to raise enough money in order to make the trip. This cost does not include treatment, but only for travel expenses. Because of her condition, she must have the best conditions of comfort we can afford. We have not heard when the appointment is. However, given her condition and the rarity of her condition, we anticipate the need to be ready by end of July. This is a serious matter as her health is declining consistently. She no longer drives, nor makes meals or cleans house. Her normal duties throughout the day are impossible. Thankfully, the rest of the family is doing these things. it is likely that we will need to make more than one trip since her condition, in my opinion, she will be a research project for Mayo. We don’t know.
