School Loan towards Youth Ministry
Donation protected
My name is Orlando Blanco, I am currently a Junior at Moody Bible Institute and studying to become a youth pastor. I feel like God has called me to be a youth pastor, because He changed my life as a youth and I know he can do the same thing in teenagers. He has taken me out of the Latin Kings gang, to share the gospel to the youth that have similar backgrounds like the one I came from. That is why I have a strong passion to serve in an urban context. Moody Bible Institute has been equipping me to do ministry in the city in a biblical way. For my PCM (Practical Christian Ministry) I am involved in Breakthrough Ministry in Chicago, which builds relationships and mentors inner-city kids from 3rd grade to high school.
This is an exciting time for me, but I am struggling to pay a $12,000 loan to go to school and finish my degree. That is why I am reaching out to the community of faith in Christ, to share my story and my struggle.
God has been working in a life that should have been disastrous, but He has shown me that when I trust in Him, He turns it into something beautiful. My childhood was not a happy one with an alcoholic father who went to jail, and the death of my grandpa, the only father figure in my life. I was left feeling alone and unloved, always feeling that I was never worthy enough for my dad to give up a day of drinking. Late in middle school, I noticed that most kids were really close to their parents, and I was longing for a family that I could rely on that would be there every step of the way. So, I got myself involved in the Latin Kings for three and a half years and suffered with depression for two and a half years because of that lifestyle. But on New Year’s Eve of 2010, I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior when I was invited to a celebration at Bensenville Bible Church.
Today I am living the dream God had for my life. Going to Moody Bible Institute has completely changed my life and is helping me grow spiritually and helping me to get to know God better biblically and personally. All the classes are practical in life and teach how to face life situations from a biblical perspective. Honestly, being in the school and seeing other students actually care to minister to a hurting city has fired my passion. It is awesome to see God working in my life and other students’ lives.
God has been constantly transforming me through hard trials to teach me to trust on Him daily and to die to myself for almost 4 years. After I accepted him, God finally accomplished my longing for a family by being part of a new family called the church. God has been working on me to forgive others as He forgave me. By his words, I have learned to forgive people but the most difficult person to forgive for me is my dad. It is because he wasn’t there for all my life but I am praying that God will keep working on me.
Please pray and consider investing into my future. If you are considering donating to help me pay for school, it doesn’t have to be a large donation but rather every dollar makes a difference.
All the money will go directly and solely to pay for the college loan. I commit to send you a monthly update letter to show you how God has been working in my life and to know that your investment is making a difference.
Your investment is very appreciated.
Thank you for taking your time to read this letter and trusting in God’s provision,
Orlando Blanco
