Suprising mom after Cancer bills

Donation protected
My name is Cass Wyant and I am trying to raise money to help my mother pay her bills. My mom was diagnosed with Colon Cancer in July of 2014. I was working on an art project in Florida when I heard the news. My mom and dad live in Iowa. Unfortunately, I did not have the means or funds of my own to be of any assistance. I felt helpless being so far away.

Growing up, my parents made sacrifices to make sure that my sister and I were well taking care of and providing us with many things that they never had when growing up. My parents are middle-class, hardworking people, and are not the kind to ask for help or a hand out. My mother always put our needs before her own and neglected taking care of herself. After my grand-mother passed away, she took on the responsibilities of taking care of my grand- father for 17 years as part of our house-hold. He passed away while she was away from home going through Chemo.

By the grace of God, my mom has gone through her pre-surgery chemo treatments. She had surgery to remove the tumor and a temporary colostomy put on. My mom has expressed to me that some days she doesn’t even feel human as she cannot go to the bathroom like a “normal” person anymore.

The doctors told my mother that because her pelvis was so small, they had to use a robotic arm to remove the tumor. My mom was blessed that the doctors were equipped with the right technology or she would have suffered a worse outcome. She continued post Chemo after the surgery that caused her white blood cells to decline, which meant the doctors had to inject her with a medicine that caused more pain to her body than the Chemo itself. A salt of the earth woman, my mother never showed her pain, so when she finally expressed it to me; it I knew it had to be excoriating pain.

As of now, my mother is scheduled to have surgery to complete her journey and reverse the colostomy bag on June 22nd. She has been advised by the doctors not to go back to work. However, because of all her finances, she said that she cannot afford to stay home. The doctor advised her that if she went back to work that there will be days she will be running to the restroom every 15 minutes. If my mother should leave her current position voluntarily, she is required to pay back the disability that was given to her by her Company.

My mother has always been there to help others in need. She also sacrificed most of her life caring for her parents. As a little girl, I remembered my mother taking care of my grand-mother daily, because she suffered from a lot of health issues from an early age.

It breaks my heart knowing that my mother feels like she doesn’t have a choice but to go back to work despite her condition so that she can pay the bills. This woman who has helped so many others and expected nothing in return now needs help. Thus, I am giving “Go Fund Me" a shot.

I would like to raise enough money to help my mom with her bills and surprise her with a trip to Florida. She has never been out of Iowa, been on a plane, or even seen the ocean. Surprising her with a trip to Florida will be a dream come true for her. I am hoping that a trip to "Paradise" will help her to relax and enjoy her life again without having to worry about bills and be able to have some down time from her traumatic ordeal with fighting cancer.

I would like my mom to have a fresh start. This process has changed her for the better. Her strength and courage should be rewarded. That being said, I would like to share a posting that she wrote on Facebook to give everyone an idea of the type of person this woman is:

Had my last chemo treatment yesterday. It has been a long journey...9 mos. so far. Trying days with another surgery lie ahead...but I am alive and that is all that really matters. There are lyrics I live by..."Heaven bent to take my hand and lead me through the fire." I think this to be true for any cancer patient. God has given us great gifts, first of all his Son, second our bodies...complex but phenomenal living machines which house our souls...cherish it and take care of it, and third he gave us each other...and when we make that human connection for even a moment, embrace it. I have had friends and strangers who had full plates of their own that stepped forward to support me and helped sustain me through the toughest time in my life. I thank God each day that I wake up, I enjoy the sunshine and when breezes surround me, I know God is by my side. I can't taste anything right now and it may be weeks before food tastes normal. I hunger for ice cream, but if I tasted it, it would be like razor blades cutting my throat due to the chemo. So bless God each time you have a meal and are able to enjoy the food you eat. I have been so sick, I have laid in bed for days on end, too tired to get a glass of water. Thank God, you are able to rise each day and have the energy to work and play. My little dogs have been faithfully by me each day, they know that I have been sick and their devotion has been kept me going. So if you have pets...treat them well...you will receive love 10 fold. I will ease back into the workforce the first of May. I have been so isolated from people while I dealt with low blood counts and infections and surgery. To be among the living and be part of something again brings me hope and great joy. My bucket list has gone to a 5 gallon pail. And all I can say is...watch out world, here I come!

So with that being said, anything you can donate to help with the bills would be greatly appreciated no matter how small. I want to keep this Campaign a "secret" from my family until the money is raised, where I will fly back home and surprise them with the money. I thank everyone for their support and ask that everyone keep this as hush hush as possible if you know my family well. I will post pictures and video when the surprise takes place. Thanks again, and God bless.
