Help Us Honor the Life of Carlos Lopez
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved father, Carlos Lopez. Born in a small town outside Retalhuleu, Nuevo San Carlos, Guatemala, Carlos lived a life marked by humility, love, and dedication. At 83 years old, he left behind a legacy as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Carlos started his journey as a nurse in Guatemala, following in the footsteps of his father, a teacher and political activist in the democracy movement. However, the political unrest of the 1980s forced Carlos to flee his homeland and seek refuge in Canada, where he found safety and opportunity.
At 40, Carlos embraced a new life in Canada, working tirelessly to support his family. Despite not mastering English, he spent over 25 years as a Facilities Maintenance Supervisor at Hurley Co., unionized with LiUNA 183. His dedication to his family and community was unwavering, always extending a helping hand to anyone in need.
After retiring at 65, Carlos faced a long battle with leukemia, which he managed bravely. In 2024, after breaking his hip in an accident, we discovered he had developed aggressive lymphatic cancer in his throat and chest. Despite his strength and resilience, Carlos passed away without the means to plan for his funeral, leaving his loving wife without the resources to cover the costs.
We are reaching out to our community for help to raise $5,000 for a simple cremation to honor Carlos's memory. His wife and family wish to give him a dignified farewell but cannot do so without your support.
Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a difference and help us provide Carlos the final resting arrangement he deserves. Please consider donating and sharing this campaign to help us meet our goal within the next 7 days.
