MY SON IS BEYOND AMAZING!!

My son Jabari Nelson was involved in a horrible car accident with a tractor trailer truck on Monday July 6, 2020. He has suffered a brain bleed and severe brain trauma in 3 areas of his brain. Thank GOD there were no broken bones but he has a severe laceration on his left arm that cut down to the bone. The right side of his brain seems to be the worst because he has lost the ability to control his left arm completely and has no control over his body. At the current moment he can’t walk or hold himself up but the doctors said that is normal and he will regain those abilities.

What can I say about my son Jabari Nelson. He’s a survivor, he’s dedicated and won’t quit so I know he will pull through this setback. Because that’s all it is… a setback. A setup for an AMAZIN comeback.

He’s BEYONDxAMAZIN!

That’s his artist name and that is what he truly is. He’s not your average young man. He’s a CHRISTIAN first and foremost and loves GOD. It’s because of GOD that he has survived. He’s an AMAZIN son to me and a wonderful big and little brother. He’s one heck of an AMAZIN Dad to his beautiful little girl Alaiya! He’s a college educated young man who has given so much to his community through his BEYONDxATHLETICS organization. He mentors young kids through sports with athletic training and football. He’s a GTOP Sabres football coach of his little brothers 10U team. He’s a pro-athlete that was signed to the Carolina Energy Arena Football team (newly renamed to the Charlotte Thunder when purchased by Thomas Davis and Ted Ginn Jr of the Carolina Panthers) yet he didn’t get to play a single game due to COVID-19. He’s also a rap artist who just released his first video called Waste No Time in response to the Black Lives Matter mural painted in uptown Charlotte. Jabari’s next level of trying to make it into the NFL and to become a signed artist with one of his favorite labels Dreamville or RocNation has been abruptly halted. I say halted because GOD is in total control of his future. I see GOD’s loving and mighty hands all over my son every minute of every day because he is recovering from his injuries at a rapid pace. The nurses and doctors at CMC were even in shock at how fast he is recovering. He went from being unresponsive and on a ventilator practically on life support to opening his eyes for me when I was allowed into his Trauma ICU room on day 3 after he tested negative for COVID-19. He would then start following simple commands like squeeze my hand and open your eyes, wiggle your toes, give me a thumbs up and stick out your tongue (even with being intubated) and he did those things. Then he self-extubated on day 3 but had been breathing on his own with the breathing tube still functioning when needed the day before. Everyone panicked and was shocked because his oxygen level remained great and his vitals were all still stable. He then was moved down to the Progressive Care Unit and then down to the Orthopedic Trauma step down unit. My son was in the hospital with a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) for a total of 10 days until yesterday afternoon when he was then released to start his inpatient rehab at the Carolinas Rehabilitation Hospital right next door. That is nothing that my son did alone. THAT is the power of GOD. He has made a miraculous recovery so far. He has a bigger purpose in life and we plan to help him succeed in whatever GOD has in store for him. I’m so proud of my baby and I’m so thankful and grateful to GOD for sparing his life. Looking at the pictures of his car, there is no way he should have survived but he did. BUT GOD! He’s a living and breathing testimony of what GOD can do and strong will and determination can do. He has all of that and then some. Now comes his recovery time, they are already planning for his discharge to be able to finish his inpatient rehab to outpatient rehab. So, I am about to move asap to a home that can accommodate him and his recovery and provide all of the equipment and supplies that will be needed to continue his care for the next year or so. However long it will take for him to make a full recovery. I am not sure of the amount this will cost but his recovery could take a year or more. So, we are reaching out to all of our friends and family to help support his care, supplies and support and anything that our insurance won’t cover and to give him some kind of normal quality of life until he can provide for himself again. So as his mother, I am praying that everyone will come together to support him and our family. Thank you so much for your prayers and your love and support.
