Jace: A Little Heart with Big Hope
Donation protected
Jace entered this world on April 23, 2021, with a fight ahead of him—one that no child should have to face. He was born with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS), a rare and life-threatening condition where the left side of his heart never developed. From his very first breath, Jace’s heart had to work twice as hard just to keep him alive.
Doctors had a plan—three open-heart surgeries that could give him a chance at life. But even the best plans don’t always go the way we hope.
- At just five days old, Jace had his first open-heart surgery, the Norwood procedure. He fought through recovery for 29 days before finally going home.
- At six months old, he endured his second surgery, the Glenn procedure. He spent three weeks in the hospital healing, only to suffer a collapsed lung just two weeks after coming home.
- He was supposed to have a third and final surgery, the Fontan procedure, in the coming years, but due to many complications, the Fontan is no longer an option for Jace.
On top of HLHS, Jace has a leaky heart valve, making each day even harder. Fluid builds in his lungs, breathing becomes a challenge, and his little body is constantly working overtime. He has undergone countless procedures—catheterizations, balloon treatments, and coil placements—just to keep his heart going.
Then, in May 2023, everything changed. Jace’s heart began to fail. Doctors adjusted medications again and again, desperately trying to give him more time. But nothing has been enough. Recently, a simple illness—the flu—pushed his body to its limits. His kidneys started shutting down, his heart struggled to keep up, and his tiny body simply couldn’t fight anymore.
Now, Jace is on the heart transplant list. His only chance at survival is a new heart.
Through every surgery, every setback, and every moment of pain, Jace has remained the same bright, loving, joyful little boy. He has never met a stranger—his smile lights up every room, and his giggle is absolutely contagious.
He loves with his whole heart, even though it’s been broken from the start.
How Your Donation Will Help
Heart transplants are marathons, not sprints. While Jace does have insurance coverage for the transplant, the financial burden his family will face is still immense. Your donation will make a world of difference in helping them through these three critical phases: while Jace waits for his transplant, during the transplant process, and in the long road to recovery afterward.
Jace will remain in the hospital until a heart becomes available, and the wait time is uncertain. Once Jace receives a new heart, he will be in the hospital for at least three weeks for post-surgery recovery, requiring round-the-clock care. The hospital is a couple of hours away from his home, meaning that travel expenses for his family are quickly adding up. These costs, combined with missed work, will put a heavy financial strain on the family, and your support will help ease that burden, allowing them to focus on Jace’s health, not the mounting bills.
After Jace is discharged, his journey is far from over. Jace will need continuous follow-up care, including heart biopsies, tests, and regular appointments to monitor his new heart. To make sure Jace gets the care he needs, Heather will have to temporarily relocate closer to the hospital, which brings additional costs for housing, transportation, and daily living. Heather and Greg will need to be ready to support their family in two different locations.
With months of missed work, relocation expenses, and the ongoing need to support Jace and his siblings, the financial pressure will be overwhelming. The family needs your generosity to help keep everything going—so they can focus on what matters most: Jace’s health and well-being.
Jace deserves more than just survival. He deserves to run, to play, to dream, and to grow old. But right now, he needs a miracle!
Please consider donating to help Jace and his family as they navigate this unimaginable journey. Every dollar, every prayer, every share makes a difference.
