Jace Essen’s Brain Tumor Surgery
On July 31st we got the gut wrenching news that our sweet 9 month old baby, Jace, has a brain tumor. The next couple of weeks were a whirlwind of appointments- with Jace being poked and prodded in attempt to find out more about the tumor & his condition.
We were elated to learn from the spinal tap & blood labs that it is most likely not cancerous. (We will only be certain after the tumor is removed.) We also think that Jace’s vision is still fully intact. We don’t think he is in pain yet, and his mood hasn’t been affected at all... unless you’re trying to draw his blood- lol. He is still just the most charming, patient, and happy guy you could ever meet. Is easy to share a smile.... and a sweet cuddle. Because of these findings, it’s positioning in Jace’s brain, along with it’s general appearance on MRI, our doctors are guessing the tumor is a Craniopharyngioma.
We won’t know more about the tumor, it’s effects, or further treatments needed until after surgery... which is scheduled for August 27th.
Surgery will last most of the day and will be followed by about a 5 day recovery in the hospital. Luckily, even with Covid rules, Jared and I are able to stay with Jace for the entirety of his recovery. Unfortunately he will be missing his brother and sister, because no other visitors are allowed.
As for the gifts of support, most will go towards medical bills. It will also help with meals, childcare when needed, any home medical equipment he may need, outpatient physical/speech therapies, prescriptions, etc.
