Hello, my name is Nichole Steadman. My son, Jace McDougall suffered a severe traumatic brain injury due to a motor vehicle accident on December 27, 2020. He subsequently took his life on Mother’s Day of this year. My son never came back from the accident. He walked like Jace, looked like Jace, but the eyes, they were different, he was different. Jace reached out for help several times before his death due to being suicidal. The first hospital pretty much told him he was not suicidal enough and sent him away. The next one kept him for two nights in the psych ward. There he received a CT scan of his brain that showed "something". Then they sent him on his way, never even speaking to a therapist of any kind to assess him. He was told to follow up with his primary care dr and a neurologist. Less than 2 weeks later my baby boy, 20 years old, took his life! I recently started a foundation called Jace Landon TBI AfterCare Awareness Foundation Incorporated. With this foundation, I aim to help individuals suffering from TBIs and seeking aftercare with medical bills and copays. Some of the funds will also go towards further research on TBIs. Currently, I have an online fundraiser set for December 27 on Facebook live through givebutter.com to coincide with the anniversary of the car accident that caused the TBI. I am also planning a 5K for March 11 in Salisbury. I plan on speaking at local high schools as well.
