Jace Tyler is a 15 year old boy who is a passionate wheelchair basketball player. He represented Queensland in 2019 and was recently picked to represent Queensland for a 2nd year at the Kevin Combes Cup with is part of the National under 18’s Basketball Championships. As you can see from the photos Jace has had a long and complicated Journey in his short 15 years. He has overcome alot of adversity, and has done it with a smile on his face and a determination that inspires all who know him.
He is very committed to his sport, training and playing 6 days a week, when he isn’t training with his team, he is in the Gym or training at his local basketball court or working on his endurance along the beach paths in his home town of Pottsville with his support worker. On his one day off a week you can find him playing NBA2K on his play station. Jace has a dream to one day represent Australia.
A little about Jace Tyler’s journey. He was born 3.5 months premature and contracted golden staph at 2 weeks old. The infection destroyed many of Jace’s joints, and also left him with Cerebral Palsy and Septic Arthritis in his joints. Over the years, Jace has had to undergo multiple operations on his joints, unfortunately the deterioration has been detrimental to his lower limbs, meaning he now relies on a wheelchair to get around.
As a youngster Jace always loved sport and longed to be part of a team, he gave soccer and tennis a go, but his physical challenges meant he was unable to fully participate and had to give them up.
Despite all of his setbacks Jace never gave up, he was determined to defeat his challenges and
underwent multiple surgeries to try and help him walk again. Unfortunately to this date, the
surgeries have not been successful. All these set backs did not stop Jace’s determination and
commitment to play a team sport.
In 2018 Jace started playing Wheelchair basketball with Gold coast Rollerblaze and fell in love with the game and was a total natural. After playing for just 6 months, Jace was selected to play for the Queensland Juniors Rolling Thunder team. With lots of hard work and discipline Jace aspires to join the Australian under 23’s team.
Jace’s major goal is to represent Australia at the 2021 world games. Training and competing in
tournaments at premier level involves a lot of interstate travel and international travel. His family are super supportive of helping him achieve his goals, and do whatever they can to help him, however the costs associated are very high.
So we are asking you to help this extremely deserving young man achieve his dreams.
By donating to this go fund me campaign you will be contributing to the cost of Jace’s travel and
accommodation to and from tournaments and training camps.
This year the Kevin Coombes cup is in Ballarat, Victoria and the costs associated will be over $2000 including entry fee, travel and accommodation and that's just one of many tournaments with costs involved this year.
Last year his family missed out on watching him compete, as they were only able to get together
enough money to get Jace to Townsville. They had to sit at home watching on You Tube. On top of raising money for this, there are other tournaments throughout the year that will require entry fees and travel costs.
It would be great to help cover these costs as well as be able to send Jace’s family along to proudly watch their boy represent Queensland this year.
Thank you in advance for helping this inspirational young man achieve his dream!
