Jack Cameron's Bypass Surgery Fundraiser

Hello. I'm Jack Cameron . I'm a writer with a BA from Evergreen Tacoma and a MFA in Creative Writing from Goddard College. Since 2006 I've written about Tacoma homicides on a website called TacomaStories. My writing has been featured in Grit City Magazine, The Pitkin Review, and Creative Colloquy.

And on Wednesday June 7, 2023 I'm having double bypass surgery.

The good news is that there is every reason to expect a full recovery.

The bad news is that the recovery will take many weeks and will be very painful. What this surgery entails is basically taking arteries from my arm and/or leg and placing them on my heart. Yeah. It sounds insane to me too. I'll be in the Intensive Care Unit for a few days following the surgery. Then I'll be recovering at home while going to cardiac rehab for 4-6 weeks. I'll be more or less fully recovered in 4-6 months.

There's also a small chance I will not survive the surgery. Essentially my 2023 is shot.

Regardless of how the surgery turns out I'm going to have monthly expenses I'm not going to be able to afford. As a freelance writer, I don't have a financial safety net for this sort of thing.

I recognize that my situation, dire as it is, is a privileged one. I won't pretend this is the most worthy cause, but it is one that will make a direct impact on my life and the lives of those around me. It's a way to know the name of the person you're helping.
