Jack loved football. His passion was putting his Bingham Town kit on Saturday mornings and being part of a team. When he was diagnosed with bipolar he felt unable to continue to play the game he so loved and took some time out as a result.
Devastatingly, Jack took his own life on the 25th of May 2021.
I share Jack’s passion for the game. His story and the continuing story of his family touched our local football community and is the motivation for this fundraiser. Jack was no stranger to a good cause himself and had in the past completed a skydive to raise money for a local resident with cancer.
When searching for a way to commemorate his memory his family wanted a modern memorial where young people could access help and support in a way that they felt comfortable. A garden with a twist that would also provide information and resources regarding support that sadly we know many young people need and struggle to access. As part of this the family would like to put in place a bench which includes free internet access and scripted information regarding key services that are there to support 24/7.
Life can be challenging for our precious young people and having access to independent support can make the difference; the feeling that you are not alone in the struggle with your feelings can literally save lives. More children than ever before are experiencing mental health problems and as communities we need to find more creative solutions. Thank you for supporting our efforts in doing this.
