Jack to the U-24 Championships in London

Donation protected
If you’re unfamiliar with me my name is Chackgarin Brown, or more commonly known as Jack. I have recently been named to the USA Under 24 squad for the U-24 Championship in the United Kingdom. This is a huge honor and I am super excited to have earned a spot with the team and play on the world stage.

This doesn’t come without obstacles though. Ultimate is still a growing sport and little of the expenses associated with the National team will be covered. This leaves me in need of $3,700 to participate; to cover transportation, airfare, food and housing. This is a huge barrier as I am a full-time student supporting myself, and on top of my training, as well as being a UW captain which requires ~10 hours a week, this feels unattainable through budgeting and saving up. I can coach a bit in my schedule and whenever school is on break I work as much (mostly more than) the law permits.

A brief summary of my career:
I started playing ultimate in 4th grade at Sanislo Int’l elementary school and continued at Denny Int’l and Chief Sealth Int’l. In my youth career I also played with the DiscNW YCC/YES 206 Tour starting in 2016 until 2019; as well as forming/joining many teams for single tournaments.

I made the Seattle cascades team in 2018 at 17, and this began my path toward the adult ranks. In 2019, as well as continuing with the cascades, I earned a practice player spot with ECU (then voodoo) and rostered with Souf (Team based out of South Seattle, formed so young POC men to continue their ultimate careers post-HS) for their first ever trip to regionals. This led directly into the start of my collegiate career with the sundodgers, which had come to an abrupt halt as COVID ended the 2020 season. When ultimate resumed I was hungry to pick up where I left off, playing for the ‘21, ‘22 iterations of Sockeye, ‘21, ’22 scades, and continuing with UW; where I am currently a senior.

Briefly about me:
I am a senior at UW-Seattle Studying communications and sales. I have played ultimate for 13 years now and it has kept me captivated for every single one, but I am also a huge soccer fan and have played both alongside for much of my life. I am the oldest of 3, a younger brother who plays baseball for UCSB and a sister who loves both softball and wrestling. My mom and dad are both avid volleyball players. My dad is from Massachusetts and moved to Seattle for work, my mom is from rural Thailand and immigrated to the US as a young adult. I am extremely proud to represent the US internationally because I know how difficult my mom's journey to this point has been. I think it shows how she was able to succeed in her mission to have a better life for her family.
