Help Jackie get a Grapefruit size Cyst Removed

Donation protected
My wife Jaclyn (Jackie) is the most amazing human on this earth. Her early childhood started off with being diagnosed with Leukemia (A.L.L) at 2 years old. The journey was not smooth basically everything that could go wrong did go wrong, kidney failure, liver failure, spinal taps, blood transfusions, dialysis, and rhinocerebral mucormycos, but with strength and relentless positivity from her loved ones, she beat her cancer! She continued to grow up, however life took another swing at her, and she ended up in foster care due to a parent that struggled with addiction. Jackie has been through a lot in her life, but as an adult she responded by inspiring and bringing hope to those who have had similar experiences and those who need it most. She has volunteered with the F*ck Cancer organization, was nominated for Woman of the Year for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society, and participates in 5k/10k local races and Spartan races for various causes. For 30+ years she has been cancer free, but there’s a chance that has changed….

In early February Jackie’s doctors found an abnormally large cyst measuring 10cm in diameter (grapefruit size) growing on her right ovary. The cyst could potentially kill the ovary it’s growing on. The doctor is mostly sure that this “parent cyst” is benign, based on its shape. Usually ovarian cysts shrink on their own, but this one has surpassed the point of natural return. It also happens to be squishing up against her spine, bladder and ovary.

This large cyst also has a “daughter cyst” attached to it, that is concerning. The daughter cyst holds a 5% or more chance of being cancerous based on its size and shape. To diagnose the daughter cyst as non-cancerous or cancerous, surgery is required.

So, surgery for Jackie has been scheduled for March 6th. The surgery will be laparoscopic and will remove both cysts, the ovary the cysts are growing on, and both of her tubes. Her other ovary doesn’t currently show any unhealthy symptoms, so we are hoping to leave it in tact and check on it post-op.

Her recovery will be 2 weeks with minimal abdominal movement, then 8 weeks of light duty (can’t lift more than 10lbs).  Jackie currently works as a car detailer, which is a physically demanding job. So she will be at home for the first 2-4 weeks post surgery, which will affect our income and therefore our ability to pay our bills.

Right now we are unsure of the exact cost of surgery and will likely not know the total cost until after surgery. She has been unable to get an estimate from her medical team, but with some google research, our best guess is “around” $9,000 for our out-of-pocket expenses. Since insurance will cover 2/3rds of the surgery, but could cost up to $24,000.

Jackie and I are not thrilled and are doing our best to set aside our pride with needing to ask for help, I am determined to make sure she doesn’t have any reason to think she has cancer again, but that comes with a cost that we need help with. Thanks for your support and understanding in advance. Jackie and I appreciate you all.
