Jackie Redden & in support of Macmillan Cancer Trust
In August of 2020, Jackie Redden sadly passed away from Cancer. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, and nanny, and is missed every day. Nothing can ever heal the pain of losing a loved one, and her absence at family gatherings, especially Christmas (which was her favourite time of year) is just a further reminder of what we have lost.
In 2022, Jackie's husband, Tony, decided to raise money in memory of his late wife, which he wanted to donate to Macmillan Cancer Trust as a thank-you for all the hard work and support of them both during the last months of Jackie's life. Tony had been a collector of TV and movie memorabilia for over twenty years and built an impressive collection of signed photos, movie props, scripts, and replica items. It was this collection of treasured items that he intended to sell to raise money for charity and donate in memory of his wife.
A specialist charity auction was set up and run by a highly recommended and reputable auctioneer, and in January 2022, the auction raised £4682! This was beyond our expectations and we were so very grateful to everyone who bid on items and raised such a wonderful amount for Macmillan Cancer Trust.
Unfortunately, all the effort and goodwill were to be marred by the selfish and dishonest acts of the auctioneer, who stole everything that had been raised. Every penny that had been spent on auction items and believing in good faith would go directly to Macmillan Cancer Trust, had gone.
Everyone aware was disgusted by what had happened. We could not believe that someone would stoop so low as to steal from a charity, and this was made worse because it felt like a personal attack, as the auction was done in memory of Jackie. To have our mother's name besmirched by the actions of this criminal only added to our grief.
What followed was a long and upsetting chain of events involving police, the courts, and the local press, to make sure the thief was brought to justice, that nobody would go through what we had gone through, and to hopefully get back the missing money raised for charity.
In 2024, the auctioneer was finally found guilty before a court of law, and imprisoned. This felt like a small victory, but unfortunately, that was all it was, as the money was gone. This was always the most likely outcome, that after our quest for justice, the money would never be returned.
Those closest to Jackie have been raising more money in her memory, in all kinds of ways, however, this 'Go Fund Me' page has been set up to try and specifically replace all the money stolen from the charity auction of Tony's memorabilia collection. The target total is £4682. It's a big ask, but something we desperately want to do to be able to finally give that cheque to Macmillan Cancer Trust in memory of Jackie Redden — my mum.
