Jackson Werth's Leukemia Fight Fund

Donation protected
Jackson is an active sixth grade boy who loves to play sports, fish with his dad, and spend time with his family.  He has a huge heart and a great sense of humor.

On January 23, 2017, Jackson was diagnosed with leukemia.  His family is working hard to give him the care and support that he needs through this difficult time.  They have been advised to expect many weeks spent in the hospital, long term follow-up care, and continued medication expenses.

The family is facing an emotionally and financially challenging time with the possibility of a long road to recovery.  Lori and Joe will need to take time off from work to be with Jackson in the hospital, in addition to caring for his brother Grant and sister Brynnlee.

This fund will be used to help with medical expenses, upcoming bills, and family needs.

The following is Lori's post from CaringBridge (1/24/17):

"Jackson has been feeling a little weak and tired and has complained of some chest and stomach pain. We took him to the doctor on Monday afternoon thinking we were looking at mono. The symptoms were similar and his spleen was enlarged. They ran tests at our pediatricians office. Mono was negative so they ran a test to measure white blood cells. That number was alarmingly large. It was a whirlwind of craziness and then we were in an ambulance on the way to Children's Mercy. He was admitted to the PICU last night and is currently still here for at least another night.

This is what we know...

*He has leukemia...99% sure it is Chronic Myeloid Leukemia(CML). Waiting on one more test to be 100% sure.

*They did a bone marrow draw and bone biopsy today. This procedure was to gain more detailed information. These results will be back within a few days.

*CML is treatable. It is rare in children, but the treatment is the same as it is for adults. As of now, the plan of treatment includes an oral medication that has few side effects. He will take the medication for several years, but will be able to live his life normally with many check ups and care with oncologists.

Jackson is aware of his diagnosis. The doctors have done a wonderful job of explaining it to him. He is in great spirits and continues to make his doctors and nurses laugh. He is nervous, but he feels safe and knows that he is in the best place for this situation.

We will update you as we know more. Please continue to pray for our little man. "

Thank you for taking time to help the Werth family during this time of need.  Joe and Lori are very thankful for all the kind words, prayers, and continued support.
