Jacob Chang Eagle Scout Project

Hello Everyone :-)

My name is Jacob Chang and I am a Boy Scout in Torrance Troop 851. I am currently working on my Eagle Project. My project is to restore two bleachers located at the softball diamond in Columbia Park on 186th Street in Torrance.

Some of the bleachers’ wood is chipped, and some parts are even broken off. Using the bleachers can potentially be hazardous to the users in the community. I wish to contribute to my community through this project and help make the park I’ve gone to and enjoyed many times, a safer and nicer environment for the kids and parents who sit at the bleachers. Therefore, my project goal is to replace the bleacher boards with new boards and repaint the frames. Each bleacher consists of ten 16-foot treated wood boards with dimensions varying around 1.5 x 9 inches in total.

The project's estimated cost is $5,000 (materials: $1,742.21, supplies: $211.37, tools: $2,857, other: $40). My goal is to raise $2,500 to cover the cost of materials, such as wood boards, paint, brushes, bolts, and other items needed to complete the project. I will borrow most of the tools needed to save my cost.

Should there be any extra funds left over, I will fully donate them to the beneficiary after my project completion.

By restoring the bleachers and cleaning up the surrounding area, the softball field will be significantly brightened up. With nicer and safer bleachers to sit on, more enjoyment will also be brought to those who use the softball field in our community.
