I am setting up this go fund me page for my close friends Gemma & Chris! Parents to Jacob who was born 8 weeks premature without his left arm. Jacob is an energetic, fun loving beautiful boy, who is outgoing & loves playing with his friends he loves jumping, climbing, football and gymnastics.
Jacob has recently started primary school and instead of this been an exciting time this has unfortunately started to cause Jacob anxiety as this has highlighted to him that he only has one arm and has become more aware that hes a little different to the other children.
Jacob has lots of friends who he went to pre school with and these friends have always supported Jacob and have never made an issue that he only has one arm. Now Jacob is at a bigger school, with a lot more children who haven’t seen Jacob before & some have never seen anyone with only one arm he is naturally now getting a lot of attention. Children asking questions “where is your arm” “why do you only have one arm”. Although Jacob will show the children his little arm when they are curious and ask, this makes jacob unhappy.
Jacob has started to say he hates only having one arm and he wants to be like everyone else and have two arms. Jacobs parents are very positive and have always encouraged Jacob to be himself and do the things he wants to do no matter what it is, this has encouraged Jacob to get on with things like any other child who has two arms would do.
Seeing Jacob recently be so upset about only having one arm has caused a lot of upset & stress for Jacob, his mummy & daddy. Yes they knew this day would come but didn’t think it would be at 4 years old.
Jacobs little arm is quite short and doesnt have an elbow joint which means there is limited options in the uk for a prosthetic arm, after some research the best place to get Jacob a body powered arm would be USA . The prosethics are costly and Jacob is going to need more than one as he will need new arms as he grows.
Jacobs parents have a great network of friends who are extremely supportive and have a few fund raising events in the pipe line such as tough mudder, a bike ride from liverpool to leeds, and planning on the national 3 peaks. These are just some of the fund raisers that are planned and there will be more in the future. So we are all asking for help & support to raise the funds needed to get Jacob to the USA for his first consultation and his first arm. Thank you for taking the time to read Jacobs story & thank you so much for your help & support in getting Jacob his wish!
