Jacob Vanderford ICU Burn Care

Donation protected
UPDATE: 8/8/23 from Brooke: Jacob Vanderford has been doing a lot of sitting, sleeping, resting and hopefully “growing skin.” He’s mostly in good spirits and is behaving if you know, you know! His burns are really starting to itch a lot so we’re excited about that. He sees the surgeon Thursday and we’ll see what’s next. Thank you all so much for the outpour of love and prayers. We still have a long road ahead, but we are walking with the Lord. His grace is sufficient!

From Brooke8/3/23 12:34pm:
“UPDATE:!!!!! When we first got here. We were told we would be here several weeks. Five days later we’re busting out of this joint!!! We are overwhelmed at the love, prayers, and donations we have received and ask you keep them coming. I love love love this man and praise GOD ALMIGHTY he is ok.”

I checked with Brooke about next steps. She says, “He was sent home with instructions to rest and “grow skin” he is to do nothing, but walk to the bathroom and do a few exercises so he does not get blood clots and to stretch the artificial skin. It’s very painful. No working or anything. We go back next Friday to be further evaluated.”

From Brooke this morning:

UPDATE 8/2/23. Jacob Vanderford had a good night and is in good spirits being his typical funny self. He has lots of tightness in his extremities and PT is proving to be pretty painful. We are still in ICU waiting to be moved to the burn unit floor. Thank you all so much for your prayers, calls, texts, messages, visits, and monetary donations. We love you all so much. Please keep us in your prayers. #praisingGodthroughitall

Dear Friends and Family of Jacob and Brooke Vanderford,

I hope you all will take a moment to pray that the Lord would surround Jacob Vanderford and his family with love and compassion. We pray for healing and grace. We pray for relief from this tremendous pain. We pray for sustaining grace for his wife Brooke as she cares for him over these next difficult weeks and months.

Please find Brooke's detailed message from this afternoon, from the Burn ICU at Baptist Hospital.

"Thank you for all the prayers and reaching out. My precious husband, Jacob Vanderford, had a freak accident yesterday while burning brush in the backyard. I had to rush him to the emergency room where he was stabilized and transported by ambulance to Baptist ICU burn center. He suffered 2nd degree burns over 15% of his body, including both legs, and his right arm and hand. His facial hair, eyebrows, eyelashes and hair were singed, but his face was not burned and his airway is clear. He is in a lot of pain and has a long road of recovery ahead. He will have his first surgery tomorrow and they will do artificial skin covering/grafts. Please keep our family and Jacob in your prayers. Things are scary and unknown at this point, but we are praising God it wasn’t worse. "

The medical staff has indicated that these upcoming surgeries will take weeks to months to heal. Jacob will be unable to work during that time. Due to a recent honeymoon, a shoulder replacement for Brooke in June, and an emergency gallbladder removal for Jacob in May, they are both out of PTO. Once released from hospital, Jacob will need Brooke at home to do wound care for an undetermined time.

We do not have even a ballpark estimate of the medical costs yet. But I would ask that you prayerfully consider giving toward an initial goal of $9,000, which will cover their mortgage, utilities, vehicles, day-care, monthly payment on current hospital bills, and groceries for this family of six for a month.

I am honored to be Brooke's best friend. I bring you this appeal with her permission and that of Jacob's brother Micah Vanderford. We will update this page with progress and more info as it becomes available.

Please pray first and foremost! We know God is good! Jacob and Brooke look to Jesus for every good thing!

Please give as you feel led.

Blessings, Becky

From Brooke: Jacob is in the room but in lot and lots of pain. Please keep the prayers coming and thank you for all the love and support. It’s gonna be a long road, but God has got this.

**Update @3:45pm July 31**
Pray for my husband! They just took him back for surgery. They said it’ll be about 4 hours before we see him again. ❤️

**July 31 Update from Brooke**
UPDATE: Jacob is supposed to go to surgery around noon (hopefully) to clean burns and to place artificial skin. Down the road, he should have additional surgeries/procedures for skin grafting. Please pray for the surgeons, medical staff, nurses, pain management, and everyone who will be a part of this process. Pray for Jacob’s physical, mental and emotional health. Pray for my health and shoulder recovery. I Ask the Lord for good health and strength to care for this man I love and adore. Pray for all our children. It’s hard not to be able to touch and hug on him. We praise God during this trying time and thank Him for His grace and mercy. Thank you to all our friends and family who have called, texted, and donated. We covet your love and prayers most of all.
