Hi everyone, I'm Mia Petruccelli, daughter of Jacqueline (Jacque) Vela. For those of you who know my mom, you must know that she has made some kind of imprint on you/ your life and her friendship is one of a kind. My mom is my favorite person in the whole world and I'm writing to all of you to reach out my hand and hopefully get pulled up out of the hole we've found ourself in as of lately...About three years ago, in my sophmore year of highschool my biggest fear returned: my mom was once again diagnosed with cancer. This time, scarier than the last. Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer that had returned in the bones; mostly the spine. For a 16 year old girl trying to get through school and only having my mom help me get through, this event was debilitating and it left me hopeless. The day after she told me the news, she was admitted to the hospital with a completely shattered vertabrae. I cant say that we haven't had days of forgetting about her sickness, laughing and enjoying going out together like old times, but it's a constant worry in the back of my head. Today, It's just my mom an I living in our two-bedroom apartment, and I am her caregiver. My mom's cancer has spread into almost every bone, and she is legally disabled (unable to work) because some days, getting out of bed is too painful to even fathom with several broken vertabrae and lesions in her legs and feet. I've had to watch my mom go through things some people will never have to witness in their lifetime, and theres no feeling worse than watching someone you love be in constant pain, knowing the only thing you can do to help is hold their hand. It hurts me entirely to watch her worry every day about bills and trying to take care of me and my brothers... I want money to be the last thing she worries about, I want her to be able to sleep at night and only worry about getting better. But, in our situation money is the constant downfall (I bet you all can imagine the amount of money we owe in hospital visits, treatment, and groceries) She was doing chemo for about 6 months, but unfortunately it just recently stopped working, and a new treatment (Faslodex) and a chemo pill will be put into effect this coming week. We hope that this will work, and that we will be able to afford each treatment. Thank you everyone for taking time to read this, and if your heart tells you to help us out, we are so thankful!
