Donation protected
UPDATE - DECEMBER 2024

Dear Friends & Family
I would like a wee hand to achieve my target in helping Ankaful Hospital staff and above all the vulnerable patients in 2025.
Please I would like to be able to provide the following:
1. Christmas breakfast, lunch and dinner
2. New Years breakfast, lunch and dinner
3. Buy some BP monitors, thermometers, weighing scales, bed sheets, pillow cases and some toiletries for the ward
If you are able to help or support me to make this happen, then please dig deep to make a donation. Counting on you all once again.
Thank you for reading.
Here are a few photos from the trip in January 2024.

UPDATE - JULY 2023:
I am wanting to raise vital funds to provide the below items for the patients when I visit Ghana this September.
Following the covid pandemic, I wasn't able to raise any funds as we were all on lockdown and times were hard for everyone.
But as we are now out of the pandemic, I was wondering if my friends and family would please donate any amount they could to help me reach my original goal. I would like to be able to purchase the following:
- Second hand defibrillator
- Digital BP monitors
- Mattresses
- Bed sheets
- Pillowcases
- And to be able to paint the communal dining areas for the patients
I am asking everyone to dig deep and help by circulating this link to all your contacts on various platforms.
Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Jacqui
UPDATE - AUGUST 2020:
I would like to reach my funding target to use some of the funds to buy PPE for the nurses to keep them safe in looking after their patients. The below message was sent to me from the Senior Nurse Bismarck Tuffour.
Covid-19 Related issues in Ankaful.
Just at the onset of the Covid-19 in Ghana, management used our OT (occupational therapy) department to sew about 900 pieces of face masks aNd distributed to all staff. We also bought disposable ones at exorbitant prices from the market. Later the government supplied sewn face mask to all the staff. We also manufactured our own face shield from the local materials. The pharmacy was also tasked to produce alcohol based hand sanitizer. The facility has not yet received Covid-19 case.
Our main challenges have been mattresses, bed sheets, b/p apparatuses, gun thermometers. Others are infrastructure defects : leaking wards, office equipment like a photocopier.
UPDATE - NOVEMBER 2019:
Dear all,
The trip to Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital in Ghana this September would not have been possible without your kind and generous donations.
Our target was to raise £3,000 however, we raised £610 at the time of the trip. £100 out of the funds raised was used to cover some of the shipping cost for the following donated items: clothing, BNFs, medical books, health magazines, alcohol gels, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap, plastic drinking cups, medicines pots, etc, from Edinburgh to Ghana.
The reminder of the funds, £510, was used to buy the following items requested by the hospital: toilet rolls, bedsheets, examination gloves and digital sphygmomanometers. Please see the appreciation letter below from the hospital and some photographs taken with staff on the day.
All donated items wouldn't have been possible without your kind and generous gesture. Your donations will go a very long way to helping the patients and hospital who have very little.
Once again, thank you to all those who donated. For those that were unable to, we hope you would be able too share the link to this page and contribute in the future. In 2020, we're raising funds for buying mattresses for the hospital, so if people can please donate whatever they can, it would be hugely appreciated.
I am so grateful for the support received from you all.
Many thanks,
Jacqui & Brian

FUNDRAISING PLEDGE:
I am a Mental Health Nurse with NHS Lothian, fundraising for Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital, a Mental Health Acute Ward in Ghana, West Africa.
My parents (Matthew & Angelina) are from Ghana and my late father worked at the Ankaful Mental Hospital. I am fundraising in both of their memories.
Mental health is as important as our physical health and I am hoping with your donations, I will be able to do more for the patients and nurses who work for this hospital.
I was born in London, I have three other sisters namely, Grace, Julie and Jacintha, and a step brother called Matthew.
However, at the age of six months old, my parents moved back to Ghana where we were all brought up. In 1994, I moved to Scotland, met my husband Brian in 2003 and got married in 2005.
We visited Ankaful Psychiatric Hospital in 2016, where I did a short presentation to the staff nurses. During my time spent at the acute unit, I spoke to some of the nurses at the time and realised how little they had to work with as mental health nurses and realised how lucky I was to have equipment readily available to allow me do my job as a mental health nurse in the UK. I was very touched and started thinking of ways that I could make a difference. I decided to raise some vital funds to help the ward and most importantly help all of the patients.
Your donations and the funds raised with this campaign will be used to buy the following:
• Defibrillator for the hospital/local area
• Blood pressure monitors (digital/electrical)
• Body temperature equipment
• CPR mannequins
• Medical posters
• Treatment room couch
• Sharp box
• Gloves
• Aprons
• Alcohol gel
• Detergent wipes
• Paint for the interior and exterior walls of the ward
• Foldaway tables for patients to eat and play games
• Plastic chairs
• Mattresses
• Pillows
• Bed sheets
• Pillow cases
• Plates for patients to eat from
• Cutlery
• Board games
• Television/DVD & radio player
• Personal alarms for the staff
• Light bulbs
I am going to visit Ghana, God willing, in August 2019 and would love to donate the above items to the ward.
Please donate whatever money you can. Every contribution, no matter how small, will make a difference to the patients. I am also looking for any medical equipment and books that are no longer required, plus volunteers to help with raising more funds, trainers to help with basic life support training and training in management of violence/aggression on the wards.
If you are interested in making the trip to Ghana with me either in August 2019 or in August 2020, please contact me.
Once again, thank you in advance for reading my post or even sharing my link.
