On Saturday, February 10, Jaeger began showing signs of colic (tummy discomfort). We had the vet out, she did what she could and thought he would be ok. A few hours later, he was still showing signs of pain. The vet came back out and did an ultrasound, and his small intestine was pushed into a spot it shouldn’t have been. She told us we needed to get to the experts at the MSU large animal hospital. We left immediately and got him to MSU. They examined him and determined that he needed emergency surgery. They got him into surgery within an hour or so of being there. When they opened him up, they found that his intestines were adhering to some fatty tissue in his abdomen which was adhered to a major ligament and parts of the intestine were getting pinched. They got them unstuck and removed the fat. He made it thru surgery and is recovering for 5-7 days at the MSU clinic. This was something that couldn’t be prevented or observed thru routine vet care. This horse means the world to us and we are so thankful to the team at MSU for saving his life. Thank you so much to all that have shared this or donated- every penny counts!!!
