Nicky was born with a congenital heart condition, transposition of arteries and had surgery to correct it at one
week old at the University of Michigan. For many years he was extremely active and living a young man’s life
playing soccer, lacrosse and snowboarding. In the winter of 2016, he had to have a double valve replacement
which has triggered the current events that are taking place and currently waiting for heart transplantation at
Spectrum Health. We continue to pray for Nicky, the Jaenicke’s and the donor and their family.
Nicky’s older brother Ty has been the “poster child” for a successful future after receiving a heart transplant
several years ago. Ty’s goals and dreams to return to the ice to play college hockey were realized. Know that
Nicky is receiving the same expert care that his brother Ty has been blessed with over the years.
The Jaenicke family, over many years, has reached legendary status in the West Michigan lacrosse and hockey
communities through participation in playing, as well as selflessly giving their time on the coaching side.
When Nicky was sidelined from playing lacrosse, he immediately accepted a position to coach youth players in
the Spring Lake Lacrosse Organization. He was joined by his father, Paul, and his older brother Josh.
The Jaenicke family is a wonderful and humble family, who would never consider starting this page or asking
for help if they felt it would inconvenience others. While the medical costs continue to rise, so many other
factors create financial difficulties at this time. We ask that you give with your heart to ease the burden as best
we can for the Jaenicke family. Go Team Nicky!!
