✨UPDATE ✨
A very long awaited update for everyone. Thank you to everyone who has donated and said prayers for my family. A community of people have stepped up to help out during a time of need, there are no amount of thank you’s in the world to express my gratitude.
Mom is home from the hospital. She has road rash on both arms, it is finally healing. Her hands are all tore up, she had surgery on her left hand because there was a tendon showing. On her right hand she now wears a splint. She broke her thumb and has issues with movement of her fingers. We are waiting for a plastics-hand appointment to see if she is going to need surgery. Mom’s pelvis is broken in 3 different spots, her fractures are mostly displaced, her left hip is also broken. With these fractures they are needing to be closely monitored because if they displace too much they can cause serious issues and she will need surgery. Even though mom is home she has a long road to recovery. She has not seen any specialist or doctors since being discharged, she ran out of pain meds so her pain management is non-existent as we continue to fight with the insurance to get her the proper care. She is expected to be out of work for 8 weeks as she will need therapy and pain management.
Thomas has been moved to an inpatient rehab. His injuries were pretty intense and we are very lucky that he is still with us. He had multiple brain injuries, severe brain injuries. His collar bone was broken in 3 spots, his arms are covered in road rash. The injury that is going to keep him down the most is his leg. He had an open compound fracture. His femur came out of his skin above his knee. His quad muscle was lacerated when his femur came out of his skin. His knee cap was broken along with his fibula. He had surgery and he is now in a brace. He is none weight bearing for 12 weeks. He will most likely be in a wheel chair when he gets home. We are waiting for scans of his knee as he will more than likely need multiple surgeries. We are also waiting to have him seen by a specialist as we believe his rotator cuff is more than likely tore.
The road to recovery is far from over. I have moved back home to take care of them. I have been taking care of car insurance, the health insurance, the cops, the animals and anything else that is thrown my way. I spend a lot of time fighting with the insurance company to get appointments approved and then calling doctor’s offices back to just end up calling the insurance back. Not only are they out of work but I am also out of work for the time being.
The next few months are going to be extremely rough. Any assistance is still very much appreciated. Whether it is donations, groceries, yard work, or prayers anything helps.
✨ UPDATE ✨
At 7:17pm on September 9th I got a call that no one wants to get. A lady has called on my stepdads phone saying she was a paramedic with the Houston Fire Department. She advised there had been a motorcycle accident and that my parents were being brought to this hospital, they had some scratched and bruises but they were conscious.
I came to the house took care of the dogs and packed clothes for them to come home in, took moms car so there was more room, thinking they were going to be coming home with me.
Upon arrival at the hospital I walked into moms room and it was so much more than scratches and bruises. Mom has four staples in the back of her head, her cheekbone is the size of a goft ball, her arms, shoulders, and face have road rash, her pelvis is fractured in three spots and she has a tendon in her hand showing. She will be going for surgery In a few hours.
Thomas, a disabled veteran, got the worst of it. He has facial fractures, a brain bleed, a collar bone that is broken 3-4 times, a compound fracture above his knee and he is covered in road rash. He is currently in the ICU and will be receiving surgery in a few hours as well.
Never in my life did I expect to hear the yelling from the amount of pain they were in. I never imagined to even get this phone call.
Some despicable human being ran into my parents on the motorcycle tonight on purpose and fled the scene. All from a little road rage because he/she pulled out in front of mom and Thomas and they honked and went around them.
This despicable human being changed our lives tonight. My parents are both going to need to be in the hospital for a little while, they are going to need so much therapy. I’m requesting some financial help; for bills, medical cost, meals as they will be out of work for who knows how long.
Prayers are always welcome as we could use as many as we could get.
Thank you to everyone in advance.
