Help support Jake Carey and his family

Donation protected
On Monday, April 3, 2023, Jake suffered a heart attack after a minor outpatient procedure. Unfortunately the heart attack was not caught on the ekg and he was sent home. Four hours later Paige took him to the ER because he was having trouble breathing. Once admitted they put him on oxygen but could not keep up with the amount he needed. At that point they told Him and Paige that he would have to be intubated. With this sobering news Jake and Paige went over end of life conversations and said goodbye to one another. Once he was intubated they realized his lungs were full of fluid but that is when they finally found the initial cause of all of this, the heart attack after surgery.

He was admitted overnight to the cardiac ICU and underwent cardiac catheterization where they found he previously (about a year prior) had a heart attack unknowingly as well. His current heart attack was a blood clot in what most of us know as the widow maker. He was then air-lifted to Anschutz Hospital in Denver because that would be the best place for him if he needed a heart transplant. As he was taken off sedation for the first time in 5 days it came to the Doctors attention that Jake could not move the left side of his body and had suffered a stroke while intubated and sedated. Paige was then faced with the decision to send Jake into a 6 hour surgery to take the heart pump out his leg and perform a craniectomy to relieve the pressure from the stroke. They were not sure his heart would be strong enough to support him in the second half of the surgery once the pump was removed but the surgery was successful. Jake has since come off sedation and his tube was taken out and was able to chat with us a bit and we saw movement in his left leg and arm, Praise God. Unfortunately Jake had to be sedated and intubated again because he is not well enough to support himself right now. We are still in the midst of Jake's journey and there are changes daily.

Jake is a loving husband and father. Him and Paige have been married for 18 years and have three daughters Leah 14, Taryn 12, and Meredith 7.

He loves fishing, hunting, gardneing and watching his girls play basketball. He has so much more life to live and we are praying for a full recovery. We know he will be in ICU and the hospital for a long time followed by inpatient therapy.

As you can imagine this has turned this young family's life upside down and they need all the support we can give them during this difficult time.

1. Please continue praying for Jake’s total restoration, Paige, Leah, Taryn and Meredith, the medical staff at Anschutz and everyone else involved.

2. If you fell led, please donate to help the family through this unexpected difficult time
