Jake Kane's Businesses and People

Hi! My name is Miranda and while I myself am from Florida, I am fundraising on behalf of my brother, Jake Kane, who lives in Lahaina, and has a few businesses that were affected by the Lahaina fires. He owns Kane's Legacy Tree Services and is a licensed arborist, as well as a zero-emissions/solar-powered equipment landscaping business: ZELM Zero Emission Landscape Maintenance. He has been in business on Maui since 2014 and has been steadily growing his business and helping out around Maui with trimming trees and negating hazards. The place that he had all of his equipment and vehicles stored (he called it BaseYard) was devastated by the fires, which the main picture is of. They lost 18 pieces of equipment and heavy machinery, trucks and other vehicles, all of their lawn equipment, all the chainsaws, and all of the climbing equipment; for both companies. On the Facebook page for Kane's Legacy he has more pictures of the devastation the fire has caused to the BaseYard with all the equipment, but I’ll attach a lot of pictures of BaseYard here as well.

Jake has filed insurance claims, but insurance is not giving him full price on all the equipment, and the government has claimed they will help, but it is slow-going and very stressful. He has 5 little ones that he has to provide for, and his source of income literally went up in smoke. On top of the stress of trying to care for his spouse and kids, most of his workers lost their homes and have had to go to other islands to try and find work. And unfortunately, one of his workers passed away in the fire.

The funds raised here will go towards building back up his businesses with replacing machinery and equipment, providing food for his family, and helping his workers with any needs they have. Once he can get his equipment, machinery, and vehicles replaced; he will then be able to help out in rebuilding Lahaina, clearing all of the hazards that are still there, and trim the trees of the burnt parts so that they too can re-grow.
